Job Coach - Employment Specialist
We are a small, local agency that works with individuals who experience barriers to employment (most of our clients experience a developmental, intellectual or physical disability); We help them on their path to securing and maintaining competitive jobs in the community. We are seeking a full-time Job Coach/Employment Specialist, who can work a flexible schedule Monday-Friday with occasional nights/weekends, and enjoys working outside of a typical office environment.
A Job Coach, also called an Employment Specialist, assists clients in finding and keeping jobs. A job coach also works directly with a client’s employer. You will provide clients with continuous on-the-job support to help them adjust to the workplace and their position. You will drive to client job sites (Portland metro area) to orient, train, and supervise clients to perform their jobs to the specifications of their employers. This support may include monitoring client job performance, assisting clients with needed areas of support and improvement, encouraging client integration into the work force and work setting, and assisting onsite supervisors with linking client skills to specific job tasks.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Network with local businesses/employers to develop employment opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment
- Provide vocational counseling and job coaching to individuals, helping them to find and retain employment
- Complete job/task analysis; including developing and implementing job training plans
- Monitor job placements with a goal of 90-day retention
- Visit job sites and meet with individuals on-site, during their scheduled work time; including some evenings and weekends
- Provide skills training and employment adjustment counseling at the job site
- Monitor individuals’ work adjustment through direct observation and through meetings with employers and supervisors
- Meet with individuals for follow-up counseling; provide retention and on-going supports to employed clients
- Develop and prepare written assessment of individuals’ adjustment to work
REQUIRED:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive independently on the job
- Must have a reliable personal vehicle
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- BA/BS degree required; OR high school diploma/GED plus a minimum of one year of relevant experience.
- Proficient in professional verbal and written communication.
- Proficient in Microsoft office and basic computer skills
PREFERRED:
- Experience working with people who experience a disability.
- Social/human services experience
- College degree in related field (adult education, special education, business, social services, human resources etc.)
- Supervisory or managerial experience
COMPENSATION: Annual Salary: $18-20 hr. Full benefits package: Medical/Vision/Dental (employer pays 75% of monthly premium), SIMPLE IRA with 3% match, Paid Time Off, and Mileage Reimbursement.
