Library Assistant, Youth Services

Full time position available immediately at the Mt. Vernon Branch Library. Duties include, but are not limited to, organizing and conducting all youth (toddler, children, teens) programming and events including preschool story time, homeschool student programs, summer reading program, outreach to schools/daycares, and working with middle grade students and teens. Assists with maintaining children and teen library collections. Performs general circulation duties, shelves material, and assists library customers in locating information and books.

Desirable experience, education and training—Graduation from high school is required. An Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, or college level courses preferred. Experience in library work including working with children and teens and a knowledge of children’s and teen literature; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities of position are required. Must possess the ability to positively promote library services in the community. Excellent computer, organizational, and customer service skills required.

Starting pay ($27,373.68 to $34,159.68 yearly) is dependent upon experience and education level. Benefits including health/dental/vision/EAP insurance and paid vacation/sick leave/holidays/personal days are included. Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
