Summary: The Licensed Practical Nurse under the direction of a Registered Nurse (charge nurse) provide nursing care to patients. Takes patient vital signs, assists with procedures/examinations, administers medication that are not in an emergent situation, assists patients with activities of daily living, instructs patients and their families in appropriate care.
Collaborates with the professional registered nurse and assesses patient response to treatment. Provides input into the development of the nursing careplan and support and reinforces teaching done by the registered nurse. All care is delivered and adherence to established procedures with accurate documentation on all prescribed forms of the care provided. Care is delivered in compliance with hospital policies, procedures, legal and regulatory standards. The LPN is able to prioritize work and recognize abnormalities through patient observation which are reportable to the RN. Consistent demonstration of all necessary competencies for the position assumed and unit assigned is required. Actively contributes to the evaluation of patient care and nursing practices through continuous quality improvement efforts. Accepts responsibility for personal growth through continuous learning. Fulfills responsibilities as an employee of St. Joseph Health Services of RI.
Licensure: Current RI LPN licensure, required.

Skills and Abilities:
Working Conditions, Physical Environment and/or Safety Requirements: Visual acuity and hand dexterity. Physical ability involves variety of body movements including stooping, bending, kneeling, lifting, standing, walking, twisting, stretching and reaching. Physical ability involves pushing, pulling and lifting more than 30 lbs.
