Job Details:

Mercer University is searching for a Maintenance Technician II for the Atlanta, Georgia campus.


 

Responsibilities:

Working under the general supervision of the Area Supervisor,  this position performs a broad range of building maintenance tasks for all University facilities in the areas of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, general maintenance, and locksmith duties.  Communicates with various faculty, staff, and students to keep them informed on repair work which impacts them.  Must have good organizational skills to keep up with the heavy workload, and manage the elated paperwork.  Performs other duties as assigned.  The end results of this job allow the Physical Plant to provide good customer service for the campus' students, faculty, and staff, which includes helping the Physical Plant keep the campus well-maintained, safe, and comfortable.

Qualifications:

A high school diploma or GED and at least two (2) years of maintenance/construction experience or combination of maintenance/construction experience and technical education are required.

Candidates must have a valid driver's license.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work somewhat independently with a minimum amount of supervision so that work can be accomplished efficiently.

  • Ability to analyze problems and make repairs.  

  • Working knowledge of carpentry, general repairs, plumbing systems, and electrical systems in commercial buildings.

  • Effective oral communication skills and competency in written communication.

  • Must have good organizational skills to effectively manage the paperwork associated with the job requirements, and the ability to prioritize work responsibilities.

  • Knowledge and ability in using computers, including utilizing email systems to be able to communicate with others effectively and to input information related to purchasing card receipts.

  • Physical abilities to be able to lift and carry large objects (up to 25 lbs. periodically and up to 75 lbs. occasionally), access confined spaces, and climb ladders with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license so that a University golf cart can be driven.

  • Must be able to work effectively with customers.

  • Ability to manage work being performed by contractors.
