Must have mechanical knowledge of small engines and be able to problem solve engine and vehicle issues. 

Job Oversight for a Mechanic/ Larval Mosquito Control Crew Foreman is as follows: performing skilled duties in the course of fixing, repairing and maintaining all GCMAD equipment. Oversight of day crew and assist where needed for the days operations. Applying specified rates of residuals, BTI’s and other approved pesticides for the effective control of larva and mosquitoes under the general supervision of the GCMAD Manager, surveying properties for presence of mosquitoes within the boundaries of the GCMAD. Assists in the recording of services rendered and prepare daily reports to the Manager. Assists with GIS system and product recording.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      Operational

 

·       Maintains all equipment at GCMAD.

·       Assists in GIS recording and maintenance.

·       Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of various labor forces and to effect satisfactory schedules and results in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.

·       Plans, organizes and directs activities of personnel required for mosquito control.

·       Compiles data from investigations and other sources and prepares reports leading to improved mosquito control.

·       Investigates citizen complaints and recommends solutions in accordance with specific laws, policies and practices.

·       Conducts tests and research studies on specific mosquito control problems and prepares reports and recommendations; oversees aircraft larvacide and adulticide operations.

·       Coordinates and supervises the inspection and pesticide application programs for larvaciding and aquatic weed operations; evaluates larvaciding and adulticiding chemicals and techniques used; oversees the preparation of insecticides used,

·       Supervises and evaluates work of crews; sees that all fogging equipment is properly calibrated and maintained; keeps records of yearly activities and assists in preparation of annual reports.

·       Participates in the selection, placement, promotion, training, safety, appraisal and discipline of assigned employees.

·       Work closely with environmental, scientific and enforcement personnel of federal, state and local regulatory agencies.

·       Performs related work as assigned. Surveys and maps the District, both public and private, for presence of adult mosquitos and mosquito larva.

·       Safely operates application equipment (ATV’s, Solo backpack sprayers, Maruyama’s, Stihl hand held applicator, etc.), on public and private lands (e.g., roadsides, canal banks, private fields).

·       Makes pesticide applications in accordance with labels.

·       Maintains complete and accurate records of all applications and/or inspections.

·       Maintains and updates maps and breeding sites using the Sentinel GIS system.

·       Identifies mosquito breeding sites and larva species.

·       Use Mechanical control methods such as; remove blockages from ditches, overgrowth, etc. as well Biological control methods such as BTI.

·       Mixes various BTI’s and other pesticides in accordance with labels.

·       Assesses wind direction and speed, possibility of chemicals drifting and other conditions, which may result in off-target, or off-label application of BTI’s and pesticides.

·       Cleans and calibrates spraying equipment.

·       Help maintain shop cleanliness and organization.

·       Provides input to manager on improvements of equipment and techniques.

·       Any other duties assigned by Manager.
