Job Description SummaryThe Medical Assistant reports directly to the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager and is responsible for daily operations in the Health Services clinic, including ordering and stocking supplies, plus scheduling, conducting, documenting, and following up with associates on Occupational Health Services and Wellness programs for BD, Sandy. The MA regularly communicates with EHS, Human Resources, Security and Plant Management concerning medical and health related situations and follows the protocols, procedures, and programs for BD. The MA may serve as a liaison between associates, the Occupational Health Nurse, Access HR and/or outside health care providers to coordinate regulated medical surveillance, FMLA and other programs to monitor and improve the overall health of the associates. The MA must have the ability to multi-task, prioritize work, have strong organizational and planning skills, be able to clearly communicate both in writing and verbally, and have a service-oriented approach.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Occupational Health Nurse with the daily operation of the Health Services Department. Assists with programs that impact the health and wellbeing of employees including assessment, nursing care (including exams, taking vitals, blood draws, etc.), and referral for occupational and non-occupational illnesses and injuries.

  • Follows all policies, procedures, and protocols for the Health Services Department, and provides input for revisions, edits the files, and ensures updates are communicated appropriately.

  • Organizes, stocks, and maintains the Health Services Clinic, including supplies, materials, and tools both in the clinic and throughout the plant. Such as first aid supplies, AEDs, etc.

  • Provides occasional after hours and weekend on-call support, per the plant schedule.

  • Regularly updates the OHM software tool with associate health related documentation, records, and files.

  • Under the guidance of the Occupational Health Nurse, conducts routine testing under the Hearing Conservation Program for all employees at risk. Including set up of the equipment, working with functional areas for scheduling associates, conducting baseline and annual audiograms, reviewing results with the nurse, and updating the records in OHM.

  • Performs Health Assessments for Powered Industrial Truck drivers.

  • Supports the Prescription Safety Glasses & Safety Shoes programs.

  • Schedules and assists with the administration of the CPR/First Aid/AED training program for Emergency Response Team and plant associates, and other identified Health Services and EHS training programs.

  • Promotes safe work environment as a member of the BD Safety Steering Committee and through participation in the A3 Root Cause Analysis investigation process, and review and follow up of the EHS Great Catch (Environmental and Safety Observations) program.

  • Administers the protocols at the Sandy and Salt Lake City BD facilities, as directed by the Occupational Health Nurse and/or EHS Manager.

  • Medical certifications are always kept current and active.

  • Maintains all individual medical records confidentially and according to legal and company guidelines.

  • Complies with all local, state, federal and BD environmental, health & safety regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

This position requires:

  • Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse.

  • Two years occupational health experience or related on-the-job experience.

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office with expertise in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel Experience.

  • Effective written and oral communications (English), math, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience in medical device manufacturing or other regulated industry.

  • Experience in Occupational Health Manager (OHM) or similar patient management software.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Good computer skills.

  • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities and projects.

  • Ability to work with outside suppliers and technical professionals.

  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.

  • Ability to handle master documents with a high degree of confidentiality.

  • Ability to provide management support during interaction with regulatory agencies, notified bodies, and corporate.

  • Ability to implement change while maintaining day-to-day operations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills.

  • Self-motivated, self-directed, and attention to detail.
