Job Description

A rapidly growing national leader in wound care services is seeking an experienced Wound Care Medical Director to oversee wound care services nationwide. The ideal candidate will be Board Certified/Board Eligible (BC/BE) with at least five years of healthcare experience, preferably in wound care.

The Medical Director (MD) will manage the expanding clinical department, including clinical training, development, and quality assurance. The MD will work closely with the Clinical Service Director and Quality Assurance Manager to ensure the implementation of best practices, while assisting in continuous program development and optimization.

Clinical Responsibilities:
  • Oversee patients with complex wounds.
  • Provide direct patient care when no provider coverage is available.
  • Supervise Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and nursing staff.
  • Review high-risk ambulatory wound care referrals and escalate when necessary.
  • Address quality-related complaints and appeals.
  • Maintain active licenses in all operational states.
Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Lead the administrative functions of the wound care program, including design, implementation, and growth.
  • Support utilization management by reviewing wound cases, appeals, and outside referrals.
  • Utilize data analytics to optimize electronic health records.
  • Attend scheduled meetings.
  • Develop and maintain policies to enhance care for complex wound patients.
  • Collaborate with leadership to create program outcome measures.
  • Oversee quarterly reviews of outcomes, QA, and risk management.
Regulatory and Compliance Responsibilities:
  • Stay updated on laws, regulations, Medicare guidelines, Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs), National Coverage Determinations (NCDs), and proposed coverage changes.
  • Train and oversee clinical departments to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and policies.
  • Review and revise clinical protocols and interventions in collaboration with the Clinical Director.
  • Ensure all note templates and interventions support medical necessity for services provided.
  • Handle appeals for claims or authorization denials related to medical necessity.
  • Represent the practice at conferences, networking to stay informed on advanced wound care developments.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • BC/BE with a minimum of five years of healthcare experience (wound care preferred).
  • Licensed or willing to be licensed in all operational states.
  • Extensive knowledge of laws, regulations, Medicare guidelines, LCDs, NCDs, and proposed coverage changes.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Proficient in data analytics and electronic health record optimization.
  • Capable of managing multiple responsibilities and projects simultaneously.
Work Environment:
This is a remote role with direct patient care required when other area providers are unavailable. The position involves a 25/75 blend of clinical and administrative work. The ideal candidate should be clinically exceptional, possess strong leadership acumen, and thrive in a collaborative team environment.

Salary: Salary starts at $250K per year.
