Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology or related field
  • The ability to complete State approved continued education units as a Qualified Addiction Professional (QAP) within one (1) year of employment
  • Experience in substance abuse or mental health field including:
    • Delivering direct therapeutic services (group and individual)
    • Crisis intervention skills
    • Assessments, treatment planning and treatment team participation
    • Case management
    • Utilization of tools, such as DSM 5 and ASAM criteria
  • Ability to pass a drug screening and State of Alaska background check

Skills required:

  • Adhere to the ethical guidelines of profession and maintain current CEU’s needed for any acquired licensure
  • Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills
  • Punctuality and consistent reliability reporting to work
  • The ability to:
    • Be a team player, demonstrating motivation, exercising discretion and dependability
    • Build rapport with clients and staff while maintaining clear therapeutic boundaries
    • Maintain confidentiality and treat everyone with dignity and respect
  • Proficient computer skills and fluid use of electronic communication tools

Job responsibilities:

  • Conduct and construct assessments for substance abuse problems and/or psychological/ psychiatric problems/disorders utilizing diagnostic criteria from the DSM 5, ICD 10 and ASAM
  • Establish and implement treatment plans that are individualized to the needs and goals of the client, using a Strengths Based Model and meeting the standards authorized by the overseeing state agency. Aid the client’s participation in the development of this treatment plan and conduct treatment plan reviews through the duration of treatment
  • Prepare and conduct individual and group counseling sessions and family sessions as needed within scope of education/experience, structuring the sessions according to the needs, goals and individual strengths and limitations of each client
  • Participate as a part of an interdisciplinary team to address clinical concerns relating to the clients in weekly team meetings. Provide case conceptualization for clients at weekly team meetings
  • Assist in the detection of “at risk” clients and development of plans to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration. Evaluate crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions
  • Case management to include coordination of care, referrals and collateral involvement with other providers to ensure continuity of care
  • Work collaboratively with other local agencies to include; Department of Corrections, Office of Children’s Services, and Therapeutic Courts
