MUSEUM DESCRIPTION

Within this incredible institutional ecosystem, the Education department will guide the formal and informal learning of visitors to the museum and beyond its walls. From classic school tours to innovative digital programming to large-format community events, the Education team will work to bring African American stories to life via ephemeral experiences that invoke thought, consideration, joy, and ultimately inspire us all. During summer, this role will participate as a camp counselor in our summer camp program. The ideal candidate will have a passion for African American history and culture, excellent communication skills, and experience working with children and educators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead interactive and informative onboarding and debriefing experiences for school groups, ensuring a captivating learning experience for students and teachers.
  • Prepare and organize educational materials, including guides and maps.
  • Assist in the coordination and scheduling of field trip visits, ensuring smooth logistics and positive visitor experiences.
  • Prepare and organize summer camp materials, including daily activity guides.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to summer camp participants, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Provide feedback and evaluation of field trip and summer camp programs to continuously improve and enhance offerings.
  • Assist with occasional weekend or evening events as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Museum Studies, History, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in museum education, teaching, or a related educational role.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Enthusiasm for museums and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of educational best practices and familiarity with school curricula.
  • Familiarity with interactive and experiential learning techniques.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, squat/stoop to perform tasks.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.

Work Schedule:

  • 16 hours per week
  • Must be available to work Monday-Thursday 9AM-1PM during school tour season (hours and workdays may shift during summer)
  • Flexibility to work occasional weekends or evenings for special events.
