Minimum Starting Salary: $23.80 per hour/7.5 hour workday

Summary:
This position is responsible for the recruitment, retention, and programming for first generation students. Research current trends in serving first generation students, recruit and select peer mentors, and implement and find co- sponsorships for both academic and social programs. Some night and weekend commitments are required. The Program Coordinator reports to the Director of Diversity & Inclusion who is a direct report to the Dean of Students.

Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Provide professional assistance to the Director of Diversity & Inclusion with special projects, events, and training for the campus community, including Black History Month planning and programming, and hosting meetings and cultural events.
  • Collaborate with Residence Life, The Dean of Students Office, and the Diversity Center to recruit and retain historically marginalized students. This includes but is not limited to promoting services, attending college fairs, and following up with prospective students. Maintain knowledge of current trends in admission, retention, engagement, academic support, and financial aid practices that would affect underrepresented populations. Provide training and support in collegiate preparedness to local and area civic programs that are providing services to underrepresented populations.
  • Collaborate with campus offices to design and implement academic and social engagement programs for historically marginalized and underrepresented groups, including first-generation college students with intersecting identities. This includes overseeing study tables, retreats, and other programs with community partners.
  • Assist the Director in overseeing the Necessary Steps Living-Learning Community (LLCs)/Floor/Program. They will assist students with academic struggles and provide support in grading and canvas navigation. The coordinator/advisor may instruct Uni 106 and 103 courses.
  • The individual will be responsible for managing the programming budget, preparing public relations literature, and identifying opportunities to attract first-generation college students to the Necessary Steps Mentoring Program.
  • Recruit, select, train, and supervise Peer Mentors, Student Workers (including Graduate Assistants), and Peer Advisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. A total of one (1) year (12 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position. (Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
3. Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.



Travel Requirements:
5% Some travel may be required.
