    This position is part of a classified Bargianing Unit. The benefits are:

At UConn Health this class is accountable for performing a full range of general clerical functions or for carrying out responsibility for the flow and completion of clerical work in an assigned area. This position will work in the Central Monitoring Room in the UConn Health University Tower in Farmington, CT.

SCHEDULE: Part time, 56 hours every two weeks, 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., rotating weekends and holidays, 30-minute unpaid meal break

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Knowledge of office systems and procedures including proper telephone usage and filing; oral and written communication skills; skill in performing arithmetical computations; basic interpersonal skills; ability to perform a full range of clerical tasks; ability to operate office equipment which may include word processors, computer terminals or other automated equipment; ability to schedule and prioritize workflow; ability to read and interpret complex instructions.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Two (2) years' general clerical work experience.10

SUBSTITUTION ALLOWED: College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling six (6) months of experience.

PREFERRED:
  • Current EKG monitoring certification and/or telemetry experience.
  • Current Clerical experience in an inpatient acute care hospital unit or medical clerical experience

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

IF NOT CERTIFIED AT HIRE; EKG MONITORING CERTIFICATION MUST BE OBTAINED WITHIN SIX (6) MONTHS OF HIRE TO RETAIN EMPLOYMENT.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  • Observes EKG monitors and reports irregularities to appropriate medical staff.
  • Processes admissions, greet and receives new patients; obtains patients' information, assembles/reviews patients' charts upon admission.
  • Notifies nursing staff/physicians of patient admission or returns of surgical patients.
  • Communicates with patients' family members and help them comply with admissions and discharge procedures. Provides appropriate factual information.
  • Transcribes physician orders, processes/schedules orders for diagnostic and therapeutic tests and procedures.
  • Notifies staff of new orders.
  • Requests services from ancillary and support.
  • Notifies staff of critical diagnostic test results; tile/scan diagnostic test results.
  • Transports specimens, supplies and medication using pneumatic tubes.
  • Observes screen of cardiac monitor and listens for alarm; respond to cardiac or respiratory arrests and initiate calls for cardiac or respiratory arrests, notifies medical staff.
  • Maintains unit records; performs quality assurance on charts [verifies that charts/forms are filed and labeled correctly, all orders have been transcribed, allergies are noted]; coordinates entry/maintenance of admission/discharge records ensuring patients' information is recorded in all required systems; maintains patient charts by thinning and adding forms as needed; tile forms and reports.
  • Order supplies and maintains stock of unit materials e.g. supply of chart forms, patient care supplies, equipment, and clerical/desk supplies.
  • Maintains a hazardous-free work environment and adheres to infection control standards and unit security.
  • Sends and are receives documents via fax machine, scanners, email, etc., duplicates documents using copier or scanner.
  • Use software for word-processing, emailing, spreadsheets, etc; generate reports and responds to correspondence as directed.
  • Responds to patients and staff and visitors requests or complaints.
  • Utilizes and communicates with staff and patients via Connexall ( training provided)
  • Answers and process unit phone calls. Assists in the orientation of new staff.
  • Attends in-service training sessions and department staff meetings as required.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

FULL TIME EQUIVALENT SALARY MINIMUM: $48,365.00, $23.17 hourly
