The Operations Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations and overseeing the resources required to deliver LFCC hot meal services. This position reports to the

Executive Director, Operations of Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Dining Services -Oversee the staff, planning, administration, and day-to-day operations of the Dining Services following company policies, procedures, financial plans, and targets. Manage food service staff and facilities. Maximize the efficiency of food operations staff through effective scheduling, communication, and training.

Dining Room Management

  • Oversee all areas of employment for Dining Room Managers, Assistants, and rovers, adhering to company policies. This includes responsibilities such as hiring, training, daily oversight, performance management , and accurate reporting of worked hours.
  • Collaborate with Dining Room Managers and the Kitchen Manager to coordinate food delivery, as well as the purchase and delivery of supplies for each dining room.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, health, and safety requirements at each dining room site.
  • Enforce at all times dining room policies and procedures.
  • Engage with property owners at each site to ensure the maintenance of the premises for food service.
  • With the support of the Executive Director help maintain two buildings that LFCC owns in Contra Costa including health department inspections and annual fire inspections
  • Guarantee that clients receive a warm meal within a welcoming and friendly environment following the mission of Loaves and Fishes.
  • Visit each of the five dining rooms at least twice a month, including weekend shifts, to provide support to Dining Room Managers and foster a cohesive team environment.
  • Conduct monthly operations meetings with all Dining Room Managers. Meet with the Executive Director weekly, as well as keeping Executive Director informed about immediate issues
  • Address and resolve issues that arise with staff and volunteers professionally and effectively.
  • Promote effective communication with all dining room managers and staff; evaluate processes for potential streamlining and improvement.
  • Train and support Dining Room Managers on all reporting requirements of operating a dining room.
  • Support Development staff with client surveys and special projects

MealConnect - The MealConnect Program is related to a partnership with the Contra Costa/Alameda County Food Bank. It is a Food Recovery Program where Loaves and Fishes receives food donations to fill our food pantries that are available to our clients daily.

MealConnect Reporting and Food Recovery

  • Train Dining Room Managers on how to report their daily food donations to the MealConnect program.
  • Submit monthly reports to the Food Bank on the amount of donated food received from Food Recovery partners.
  • Create monthly reports for the Loaves and Fishes hot meal count that is presented to funders and the Board of Directors.
  • Research and contact new food recovery partners coordinating pick-up time and frequency.

Volunteers - Loaves and Fishes relies on over 100 volunteers per week to help support our services. We recruit and schedule our volunteers by utilizing a software called VolunteerLocal.

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Manage volunteer applications, in conjunction with dining room managers at all 5 dining rooms and Central Kitchen, to ensure volunteers are properly greeted and trained. Maintain volunteer availability and schedule in VolunteerLocal by utilizing the email and text functionality of VolunteerLocal to communicate with all volunteers.
  • Streamline volunteer management processes
  • Work with Dining Room Managers to ensure adequate volunteer coverage per shift and to backfill for day-of no-shows.
  • Train and support Dining Room managers on the utilization of Volunteer software, VolunteerLocal
  • Train Dining Room Managers on how to meet and greet new volunteers, providing them with an elevator speech on the mission of Loaves and Fishes.
  • Work with Dining Room Managers on cultivating volunteers by utilizing VolunteerLocal, NextDoor, and other social media channels
  • Assist the Board of Directors in organizing the Volunteer Appreciation Party.
  • Organize Volunteers for all fundraising events with the Development Director and event committee.
  • Support Development Team in researching and contacting corporate and church groups for possible volunteer opportunities.
  • Give support and cultivation for Week of Caring (corporate giving week).
  • Launch, manage, and cultivate a Volunteer Giving Campaign alongside the development team.
  • Attend Volunteer Fairs and Community Events related to Volunteers.
  • Organize volunteer drivers for food rescue pick-up and delivery
  • Visit Dining Rooms to meet and engage volunteers educating them on the mission of Loaves and Fishes and the impact of the work they are doing.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

● Strong leadership and problem-solving skills to effectively manage a team and handle unexpected challenges.

● Extensive knowledge of food management and operations.

● Experience in budget management; Ability to interpret financial data as needed.

● Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

● Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.

● Ability to work and communicate effectively with people of all ages from very diverse backgrounds.

● Ability to use discretion and diplomacy in dealing with donors, Board members, staff, volunteers, and colleagues.

● Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Qualifications:

● Bachelor's degree preferred in Business Management, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent.

● ServSafe Manager Certification required.

● Five years of related experience required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,156.49 - $66,425.02 per year
