Definition

This position will conduct outreach and reproductive health and wellness education to at-risk women, men, teens, and partners. It will also assist clients in accessing healthcare and other community resources to address health outcomes. The position will also conduct activities to support and promote reproductive healthcare services within Columbus Public Health, linking to other CPH services and community partners as appropriate.
Starting pay range: $20.60 - $22.89

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Background in reproductive health, sexual health, or public health, knowledge of community resources, and bilingualism in Spanish are preferred.
  • Able to work Tuesdays 10 am-6:30 pm and Thursdays 11:30 am-8 pm.

Under general supervision, is responsible for disseminating information about and assisting citizens to take advantage of community programs and services; performs related duties as required.

Examples of Work

(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)

Urges target citizens to seek professional help and guidance from programs and services;

Follows up on contacts and submits reports of outreach activities;

Seeks out individuals throughout the community and speaks with them to become familiar with their problems;

Participates in community and neighborhood events and activities calculated to acquaint the residents of an area with services or programs;

Speaks before community groups to establish rapport between community and program representatives and to publicize available programs and services;

Arranges transportation for individuals to testing and treatment facilities or other community-based services;

Contacts other agencies and groups to solicit their aid and cooperation with outreach programs;

Learns to maintain records on individuals who require treatment and/or participate in the programs;

May prepare news releases and promotional material concerning outreach programs and services;

May need to communicate with individuals who have limited English language skills;

May provide child care services that serve to enable clients to receive testing or treatment;

May perform on-site visits to businesses to review compliance status and submit written reports on findings;

May be assigned to serve as a member of an Incident Command System (ICS) Team, or a similar public health response team which may include the conduct of operations on a 24/7 basis at remote locations. Assignment may include serving as a department and/or community incident commander or on the incident command team.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of the twelfth school grade. Substitution(s): A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) will be accepted in lieu of the twelfth school grade requirement.

Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Some positions may require specialized skills, background, and/or certification due to the nature of, or funding requirements for, the program.
