What we do:
Our mission is to identify and raise awareness of the needs of those in Chatham Country affected by any form of domestic and/or sexual violence and to work in collaboration with the community to meet those needs.
Position Summary:
The Part-Time Shelter worker will provide support and assistance to the residents of the domestic violence and sexual assault shelter, ensuring a safe, trauma-informed environment for residents. This role requires a compassionate and experienced person who is committed to advocating for survivors, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment, and maintaining high standards of care and support.
Responsibilities:
Resident Support:
· Provide compassionate support to residents, addressing their emotional and practical needs. Actively listen and engage with survivors in a non-judgmental manner.
Safety and Security:
· Monitor shelter premises to ensure the safety of all residents. Adhere to safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Intake Assistance:
· Assist with the intake process for new residents, ensuring they understand shelter policies and procedures.
Crisis Intervention:
· Respond to crises as they arise, providing immediate support and resources to residents in distress.
Resource Coordination:
· Help residents access necessary services, such as counseling, legal aid, and health care. Provide information on community resources.
Maintaining Shelter Environment:
· Assist in the upkeep of the shelter, including cleaning common areas, preparing meals, and organizing supplies.
Documentation:
· Maintain accurate records of resident interactions and services provided, while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with legal requirements.
Minimum Requirements
Education/experience:
· High School Diploma or equivalent; additional education in social work, psychology or a related field preferred.
· Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault or related fields desired.
· A minimum of 3 years paid and/or volunteer experience in the field of human services with experience in domestic and/or sexual violence.
· Experience working or volunteering in a non-profit organization.

· Understanding of the nature and dynamics of domestic and sexual violence and a trauma-informed response
· Ability to work in partnership with the Shelter Director
· Strong oral and written communication skills
· Experience working with diverse people and groups
· Resource development skills
· Demonstrated effectiveness in working as both a leader and member of a team
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on empathy and active listening.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with discretion.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 24 per week
