Job Description

This job provides supervision of transcription, specimen processing, archival and secretarial staff and functionality. Oversight includes, but is not limited to, developing trending reports, workload distribution, secretarial and public relations responsibilities, accessioning of all specimens in the anatomic pathology laboratory; and transcription of all faculty generated reports. This job maintains and coordinates consult service and billing for Anatomic Pathology. This job maintains and coordinates all medical/legal requests for Anatomic Pathology. This job coordinates all Patient Care Requests for both internal and external customers for Anatomic Pathology. This job also manages customer service requests for patient care, internal and external, for Anatomic Pathology.

Experience REQUIRED: Minimum of four (4) years of previous secretarial/administrative work experience in an office setting Previous experience with Microsoft Office applications and e-mail/calendaring Minimum of 1 Year of supervisor experience

Experience PREFERRED Five (5) years of previous secretarial/administrative work experience in an office setting Previous experience in an academic health care setting

Education/training REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent

Education/training PREFERRED: Associate Degree in Business, Accounting or related field from an accredited program

Independent action(s) required: Must possess knowledge of local, federal and state laws and regulations and JCAHO standards related to position’s chief objective and demonstrate aptitude for compliance with VCUHS policies, procedures and customer service philosophy.

Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): Supervises staff assigned to transcription and secretarial/administrative staff in Anatomic Pathology. Oversees multiple areas within Anatomic Pathology.

Additional position requirements: Individual must be flexible and able to make changes as necessary as the operation dictates and provide administrative and operational support as required. Person must be willing to flex the working hours to meet the needs of the department.
