Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Peer Support Specialist interacts with clients with the goal to engage in services/treatment outside of the Engagement Center.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Proactively contributes to Eskenazi's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi values
  • Meets with clients multiple times a day to provide ADL assistance
  • Observes and documents patient functioning
  • Interacts with clients with the goal to engage in services/treatment outside of the Engagement Center
  • Provides the following:
    • social skills instruction
    • training in problem solving in daily living
    • crisis management and emergency interventions
    • written/electronic documentation of observations or interactions
    • understanding and support for clients that are under the influence of substances
    • assistance in maintaining a clean and safe environment

Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalence (GED)
  • Experience in a human services area, teaching and observing
  • Must be able to verify completion of state approved training program and passing score on certification exam

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of behavioral health and addictions
  • Knowledge of:
  • community resources
  • patient rights and responsibilities
  • certified recovery specialist code of ethics
Meets the following basic competencies:
  • Basic first aid/CPR
  • Mental health and addictions
  • Documentation and billing practice
  • CPI
  • Confidentiality process and procedure
  • Annual education
  • Legal issues
  • OBHP eligible
