Pharmacy Tech Trainee
M-F 7:30AM-6:00PM, Sat/Sun 10:00AM-6:00PM, rotating shifts

Responsibilities:

OPERATIONAL FUNCTIONS
  • Prepares and distributes medication products to fulfill medication orders
  • Accurately compounds sterile and non-sterile products, including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition, in accordance with facility, state, and federal laws and regulations
  • Answers the telephone, identifying self and department and directing calls to appropriate personnel in a professional and courteous manner
  • Ensures appropriate and adequate medication inventory by restocking, rotating stock, removing expired medications, packaging medications, and ordering supplies
  • Accurately performs data entry for patient billing
  • Ensures proper medication storage
  • Maintains a neat, clean, orderly, and secure department
COMPLIANCE
  • Ensures the appropriate preparation and dispersal of medications in accordance with facility, state, and national laws and regulations
  • Prioritizes the importance of preventing errors, accidents, and infections within the workplace and reports potential or actual concerns immediately
  • Compliant with Iowa Board of Pharmacy requirements for technician in training
Basic UPH Performance Criteria
  • Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
Qualifications:
License(s)/Certification(s)
Must be registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee prior to first day of work. Must maintain a current Pharmacy Technician Trainee registration and be in good standing with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy. Must obtain registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician prior to the expiration of the technician trainee registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy

Must be able to proficiently read, write and speak English
Must have strong math skills, with some basic algebra. The following are performed on an as needed basis:
