Essential Job Functions:
- Perform all functions and responsibilities of Retail Pharmacy Clerk in a safe, effective and efficient manner.
- Provide prompt, courteous customer service.
- Utilize, update, and maintain data on Pharmacy computer system.
- Operate cash register and scanning terminal.
- Maintain Pharmacy files and records.
- Order prescription merchandise from specified sources.
- Process Third Party transactions and forms.
- Call doctors’ offices for refill authorizations.
- Fill and package nursing home accounts under direction of pharmacist where applicable.
- Process prescriptions and maintain related systems under direction of pharmacist.
- Increase store sales and profits.
- Able to effectively communicate with customers and associates.
- Keep floors, clean, safe, and free from clutter.
- Make clean, neat, and friendly impression on customers.
- Answer phones and take customer orders, ensuring orders are completed on time and to the customer's
- satisfaction.
- Keep inventory of current medications and process orders for new medication shipments.
- Stock shelves with medications.
- Follow all current rules and duties of the Pharmacy, Company, and State and Federal laws, as made known.
- Must keep work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
- Be prompt, tactful, calm, courteous, and professional in all interactions.
- Adhere to company policies & procedures, particularly in the areas of dress code, grooming, food safety,
- sanitation, and maintenance of a work environment free of unlawful harassment or discrimination.
- Maintain equipment and facilities properly and safely in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Perform any and all duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
- Standing & Walking – Frequent standing & walking. Estimated total time 8 hrs. Maximum continuous time up
- to 8 hrs.
- Sitting – No work activities require sitting.
- Lifting & Carrying – Max weight 20 lbs., average weight less than 5 lbs., distance carried up to 15 feet. Must
- frequently lift items under 10 lbs. and items between 11-25lbs., and rarely lift 26- 100 lbs.
- Climbing – Frequently climbing plastic two-step stool.
- Other – This position also requires frequent bending, squatting, and kneeling, as well as constant use of either
- arm or both for reaching in all directions. Other requirements include twisting, neck flexion/extension, cervical
- rotation, frequent forearm movement, and frequent or sustained awkward wrist positions.
- Work Conditions – Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, and sudden changes in temperature.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Willing and available to work weekends and holidays as needed
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to make intelligent decisions quickly.
- Ability to multi-task and set priorities.
- Personal initiative and follow through to completion.
- Strong communication skills and diplomacy when dealing with people.
- Must be able to read shelf tags, signs, product labels, training materials, bulletins, etc.
- Able to interact with doctors’ offices.
- Able to effectively use Pharmacy computer system and equipment.
- Able to perform Pharmacy clerk and/or checker duties.
- Confidentially regarding customer records is expected as a condition of ongoing employment.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification (pass certification exam)
- Skills to maintain computer files, records and paperwork.
- Functional understanding of Third Party policies and procedures.
- Vocabulary in pharmacy terms and abbreviations.
- Knowledge of common drugs, dosage forms, and generic names.
- Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment and willingness to help all members of the
- department.
- Able to tactfully and calmly handle stressful situations and make a positive impression on associates and
- customers.
