What You'll Do:

The Division of Industrial Compliance and its associated boards ensure Ohioans are safe in public buildings such as businesses, educational institutions and municipal buildings. This includes drafting and applying the Ohio Building Code; conducting appeal hearings; issuing variances to code requirements; licensing commercial contractors; inspecting boilers, elevators and bedding; and regulating ski tramways. The division has responsibility for portions of the Manufactured Homes Program, and licenses installers and parks. The division also oversees Ohio’s minimum wage, prevailing wage and minor labor law programs.

This position is intermittent/temporary and may not work more than 1,000 hours per fiscal year.

  • Review construction documents submitted for new construction, alteration, addition, & change of occupancy of all state-owned buildings, college & university buildings, & commercial & residential buildings not under jurisdiction of local certified building departments.
  • Plan review items including but not limited to site plans, building height & area limitations, building foundations, structural loads, building wall, floor, & roof/ceiling assemblies & their required fire ratings, means of egress, electrical system, mechanical system, fire protection systems, required number of plumbing fixtures, elevator & conveying systems, & accessibility requirements, etc.
  • Plan review processes including, but not limited to reviewing plans in electronic & paper format, meeting with customers in person, generating & handling necessary letters & plan approval documents, etc.

Commerce is currently operating under a hybrid work schedule that may include both teleworking and in-person office hours. Employees must be able to report to the office when requested by management &/or for their initial training period.

Qualifications


Certificate to practice architecture per Section 4703.06 of Revised Code or certificate of registration as professional engineer per Section 4733.02 of Revised Code.

The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check as well as other investigative reviews.
