Reports to: Director of Fleet Operations

Terms: Regular full time, hourly, non-exempt. Eligible for overtime, if it is available

Shift: 12PM – 8PM Mon- Thur / 10am-6pm Friday with flexibility required to meet operational needs.

Compensation: $41.58 – $49.68 per hour

$2 shift differential paid past 3PM

Purpose

The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor will supervise the work of other Fleet Maintenance Technicians based on department priorities as determined by Fleet Maintenance management, DOT law, and department protocols for responding to maintenance repair requests. The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor will perform all of the duties of the Senior Fleet Maintenance Technician, performing preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), troubleshooting, repairing, and rebuilding major components on vehicles and equipment including but not limited to: Brakes, Air Systems, Hydraulics, Compactors, Automated Arms, Engine Diagnostics, ABS, etc.

Responsibilities

  • On a daily basis, review all maintenance reports—Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR’s), door traffic and/or service calls—and assess the priorities for fixing vehicles that day
  • At the end of the pm shift, create the maintenance schedule for the next day according to the determined priorities;
  • Uphold priorities for the department throughout the day based on route needs and in consideration of which types of vehicle issues are DOT-required to be fixed before going out on the road
  • Provide guidance and direction to other maintenance technicians in order to ensure that the daily maintenance schedule is followed and that repairs are being completed safely and in a timely manner.
  • Communicate daily with key staff members to discuss fleet issues, updates on repairs, costs, timing, truck availability, and unreported issues.
  • Uphold the fleet maintenance team’s tool processes in regards to Eureka-supplied tools, and ensure tools are cleaned and properly returned to the correct location.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance within OSHA standards.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles according to fleet maintenance schedule.
  • Analyze root cause of all break downs in order to properly fix the vehicle and enabling it to be returned to service and minimizing repeat repairs.
  • Conduct service calls on the road for emergency breakdowns.
  • Advise manager of work that cannot be completed in shift, ensuring items are placed in backlog for future repairs according to management’s priorities, i.e. non-DOT items.
  • Inspect the quality of outside/supplier repairs and or rebuilds. Assess structural damage and assign needed repairs utilizing the most appropriate method(s).
  • Follow all safety policies, such as Lock-out Tag-out, Confined Space, PPE, etc.
  • Advise manager of parts needed to complete current tasks and assist with ordering parts as directed.
  • Use vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.
  • Assist fleet maintenance management in ensuring that technicians are properly using shop maintenance software to track: labor, parts, and total repairs costs
  • Attend daily Operations call as needed to discuss maintenance needs / truck issues
  • Understand, support and demonstrate the mission and values of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in general heavy truck repair for commercial fleet operations, including diesel engine system diagnostics, air brake repair and preventative maintenance. Ability to perform diesel maintenance work with little supervision.
  • Knowledge of and experience with tools needed to perform vehicle repairs. Must have and bring to work own tool set.
  • Ability to work extra hours when there is a business need.
  • Demonstrated documentation and recordkeeping skills and use of fleet maintenance software tracking systems.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to juggle and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Legible handwriting and good attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively communicate professionally and courteously with 3rd party vendors, community members, and staff.
  • Waste industry maintenance experience highly preferred but all maintenance experience considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Intermediate computer skills (proficiency with Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Class B commercial driver’s license preferred but not required. Eureka can help update a Class B CDL that has expired.
  • Experience in heavy truck repair for commercial fleet operations.
  • Basic welding skills such as Oxy/Acetylene, MIG, and ARC desired, not required.
  • Possess MN DOT inspector license or be able to obtain in 6 months after hire

Working Conditions

  • Works indoors and outdoors in a shop environment; subject to seasonal and adverse weather conditions.
  • Regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors.
  • Subject to noise from equipment operation.
  • Must have dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of buttons and levers and use of feet to control pedals on equipment.
  • Work will require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
  • Must occasionally perform heavy physical labor; lifting and carrying heavy objects. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must climb in and out of truck; bending at the waist, reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; carrying, pushing and pulling.
