Sparrow Bakery is a busy, medium-sized, regional, wholesale and retail bakery specializing in hand laminated croissants and crave-worthy café foods. Founded in Bend in 2006, we began to service local, reputable wholesale accounts here in Portland in 2019 (Zupan's Markets, Stumptown Coffee, Coava Coffee, Providore, Market of Choice, New Seasons, and more), and in 2020 we opened our first regional retail cafe in St. Johns.

We are searching for a full-time, night shift (4pm-1am, 4+ days/week) Career Baker to add to our team of retail cafe bakers at our St. John’s location. Come learn the old-world craft of artisanal baking! **Professional baking experience is preferred, but we're willing to train an eager individual with food service experience.

Starting pay will depend upon relevant experience

• $18.50-$20/hour (plus approx. $3+ in tips) with less than 2 yrs professional baking experience
• $20-23/hour (plus approx. $3+ in tips) for bakers with 2+ yrs relevant professional baking experience

This FT position requires a 4 day a week schedule of 4pm-1am (including at least one weekend day per week) and while this may be a lifestyle change, we do attempt to reward this personal sacrifice in wages and carefully tailored schedules to meet your personal needs: because our FT bakers have 3 days off the clock each week they are able to relax, rest, and make sure their personal life is in balance.

Pastry Baking will help you develop or hone these specific skills: fine motor skills, an attention to detail and aesthetic, a penchant for consistency and incremental improvements over time, as well as working with urgency and efficiency. Pastry baking can be satisfying work because at the end of each shift you will have an opus of products that you produced, and both the satisfaction in seeing those physical beauties, along with witnessing the customers’ enjoyment of your work, can cultivate a real feeling of fulfillment in our bakers. You as well as bake prep, occasional lamination, shaping, boiling and baking bagels, quick bread and cookie batters and doughs.
