First Merchants Bank is seeking a Principal Solutions Innovation Architect to join our team! This position will be responsible for leading the modernization of existing technical stack, drive automation initiatives, and provide guidance on architecture advisory in critical projects. Work with various units on emerging technologies, technical design, proof of concepts and project implementation planning. Represent the team in external forums and internal committees/sub-committees.

As part of this role you will:

1. Modernize Existing Technology Stack:
   1. Assess current technology stack and identify areas for modernization.
   2. Develop strategies and implementation plans to migrate to newer technologies and platforms.
   3. Lead the execution of modernization efforts ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
2. Remediate Technical Debt:
   1. Identify and prioritize technical debt across systems and applications.
   2. Develop plans to address technical debt and improve overall system reliability and performance.
   3. Implement solutions to remediate technical debt in collaboration with development teams.
3. Spearhead Automation Initiatives:
   1. Identify opportunities for automation to streamline processes and increase efficiency.
   2. Design and implement automation solutions for deployment, monitoring, and maintenance tasks.
   3. Drive adoption of automation tools and practices across the organization.
4. Provide Architectural Advisory:
   1. Act as a trusted advisor to project teams, providing architectural guidance and best practices.
   2. Participate in project planning and design sessions to ensure alignment with architectural standards and principles.
   3. Review and approve architectural designs, ensuring adherence to standards and scalability requirements.
5. Develop Scalable Integration Solutions:
   1. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable integration solutions.
   2. Define integration patterns and standards to ensure consistency and reusability.
   3. Provide guidance on selecting appropriate technologies and platforms for integration projects.
6. Promote Data Framework and Governance:
   1. Work closely with data engineering and data governance teams to establish data frameworks and governance policies.
   2. Define data streaming architectures to enable real-time data processing and analysis.
   3. Leverage cloud services to optimize data storage, processing, and analytics, while reducing maintenance costs.
   4. Prototype data technology concepts and validate the effectiveness of new technologies to meet business requirements.
7. Provide Guidance and Mentorship:

   1. Offer technical guidance and mentorship to development team, promoting best practices and architectural principles.
   2. Conduct knowledge-sharing sessions and workshops to enhance the technical skills of developers.
   3. Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team, encouraging innovation and collaboration.

To be successful in this position, we require the following:

• Bachelor’s degree in management, accounting, business, or a related field.
• A minimum of seven years of related technology leadership and/or operational experience.

• Master’s degree.
• Certifications in software development, cloud, or data.
