Job Description

The Center For the Arts at Kayenta (CFAK), located in Ivins, Utah was built with the grass roots support of community members who envisioned a vibrant, intimate, professional theater venue nestled in the majestic red rock mountains of the Kayenta community. The vision of Center For the Arts at Kayenta is to be a premier venue where diverse artistic endeavors and education can flourish. Today a full range of over 40 diverse theatrical events and festivals are held annually inside the beautiful 150 seat Black Box theater as well as outside in the Kayenta Art Village.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Production Manager/Technical Director is a trained, creative, and passionate member of the core team at the Center for the Arts at Kayenta. This position is responsible for the artistic and technical implementation of all presentations, events, and activities, and they will make meaningful contributions to technical planning and problem-solving.

The Production Manager / Technical Director will supervise all production activities produced or presented by CFAK, and is responsible for developing and managing relationships with visiting directors, designers, and production managers, as well as local equipment vendors, freelance crew, and other service providers. They are expected to engage with CFAK staff, audiences, artists, and board members on occasion, and must have good people and communication skills, as well as a love of theater and artists.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Ensure all productions and events at CFAK are held to the highest possible production and artistic standards;
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to evaluate proposed projects for presentation at the Center, either within the theater or in an outdoor space;
  • Provide leadership in advancing all productions, including:
  • Advancing all technical riders;
  • Prepare and oversee load-in and technical schedules for all productions;
  • Maintain and update equipment inventories and technical drawings;
  • Serve as the primary authority throughout load-in and technical rehearsals, ensuring that the artistic vision, schedule, and budget are adhered to;
  • Communicate clearly and promptly with artists, designers, and directors as to the feasibility of their ideas;
  • Ensure all applicable fire and assembly codes are followed;
  • Ensure the highest possible level of workplace safety for crew and artists;
  • Ensure the Center is kept to the highest standards of cleanliness, repair, and operational efficiency;

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Stage Manager, Production Manager or Director of Production
  • Experience working with international companies or international touring is a plus
  • A broad working knowledge of all aspects of technical design and production (lighting, sound, carpentry, stage management)
  • Working knowledge of Hog 4PC light board and QLab is preferred
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • A strong working knowledge of CAD programs (either AutoCAD or Vectorworks, ideally both)
  • Working familiarity with google drive and Microsoft Office programs
  • A valid driver’s license is required

SCHEDULE

The Production Manager / Technical Director works between 30 and 50 hours per week with CFAK, depending on production and presentation needs. Evenings and weekends are required, as are scheduled weekly staff and planning meetings. Overtime is offered for weeks that require more than 40 hours of work.

COMPENSATION

$20-$26 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience

Hourly rates are objectively determined using a matrix that considers years of applicable experience with relevant qualifications, education, and training.

This position accrues paid time off according to KAF’s Paid Time Off and Sick Pay policies.
