Job Summary

The College of Arts, Sciences & Education, Fine and Performing Arts department is looking for a Production & Resident Stage Manager who will be responsible for on-site supervision of the day-to-day operations of stage productions.

This position will report to the Fine and Performing Arts Chair.

This will be a 32 hour per week (80% effort) position with a posting range of $44,240 - 55,280

Responsibilities*

  • Supervise day-to-day operations of production elements. Major components include scheduling, working with outside designers and vendors, mentoring students.
  • Responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all technical and staging aspects of the production of performances and related educational activities.
  • Work with department chair and coordinators, vendors, artistic directors, designers, producers, and/or tour managers to supervise all physical aspects of productions, whether on tour or locally produced.
  • Negotiate and secure rentals with local vendors for lighting, sound, stage, and other equipment as needed to be consistent with the organization's objectives.
  • Secure and negotiate rights for upcoming productions with possible work on marketing and social media for events.
  • Maintain an outside rental calendar with UM-Flint Conferences and Events Office and manage scheduling, contracts and payments for outside rentals.
  • Stage Manage mainstage productions (including night and weekend work) .
  • Organize and supervise student crews for productions.
  • Supervise and approve hours for student workers for outside rental events.
  • Perform all physical aspects of the job
  • -not limited to bending, reaching, climbing, walking up and down stairs and moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Required Qualifications*

  • Master of Fine Arts or MA in Arts Administration
  • 3 or more years related professional experience
  • Experience with mentoring and guiding students.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google tools and other related technology
  • Must be able to perform all physical aspects of the job with or without reasonable accommodations
  • -not limited to bending, reaching, climbing,walking up and down stairs and moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Modes of Work

Onsite

The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside the State of Michigan.
