Public Health AmeriCorps is a 1 year National Service Opportunity in the State of Maine

GoodwillNNE operates multiple programs for individuals with disabilities. All of these programs strive to create innovative opportunities for clients and residents to be as integrated into the community as they desire. GoodwillNNE will be looking to expand these opportunities not only for our own clients and residents with disabilities but also in partnership with other organizations across the state (particularly focused on underserved counties). GoodwillNNE believes in the power of work and supporting individuals with disabilities to play a meaningful role in their communities. Project Work/Life Success will place 4 AmeriCorps members to serve GoodwillNNE clients/residents and 6 members to serve clients/residents of other organizations. GoodwillNNE will provide robust training to all members in a job/community integration curriculum and support in implementing it while support staff for residents/clients will support members efforts to understand local realities including resident/clients’ needs.

Member Duties : The primary goal of the Community Integration Coordinator will be to help individuals improve their mental and physical health through community engagement. Supporting individuals’ efforts to work or volunteer in opportunities that will give them increased meaning will result in better mental and physical health for residents. Members in this role will: • Deliver Work Readiness/Community Integration Boot Camp • Create community engagement plans with clients and residential staff • Establish connections with community partners to set up job shadows, volunteering, community event participation, etc. • Create and plan small scale events and activities that engage residents in the home and greater community • Accompany clients (drive, bus, walk) into the community for work, meetings, or recreation.
