This facility operates five days a week and produces Barber Foods Stuffed Chicken Breast products.

Position Summary:

The Refrigeration Technician is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Refrigeration System (consisting of an ammonia refrigeration plant and auxiliary HVAC equipment and installations) while maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to Tyson Policies and Procedures. The applicant must be familiar with Anhydrous Ammonia, Plant Ammonia Systems, Freon and HVAC, and electrical refrigeration, Plant Steam Systems, as well as have experience working with industrial refrigeration and steam components.

This position is slated for 3rd shift. Pay is commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete Tyson Level 1 through Level 4 Skills Training within eighteen (18) months of being placed in this position.

  • Follow all Company Policies and Procedures such as GMP’s, Food Safety, PSM/RMP Guidelines, Lockout/Tagout Procedures, etc.

  • Fulfilling all duties as necessary, described within the Refrigeration Operator job description, abiding by all the requirements.

  • Perform any other work as assigned by PSM Coordinator, Refrigeration Supervisor, Maintenance Manager, or designated replacement.

  • Follow all HAZMAT grooming requirements and become HAZMAT-certified.

  • Perform charging, evacuation, and pressure testing of system vessels and components during projects, and line opening procedures in accordance with established polices.

  • Assist in operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of other utility systems.

  • Assist with boiler and steam system maintenance, while completing require Boiler Rounds.

  • Complete and evaluate daily logs pertaining to the temperature, pressure, and general operation of the refrigeration system.

  • Maintain water treatment system and chemical controls for the evaporative condenser per the specific manufacturer’s specifications.

  • Monitor contractors working on or near refrigeration systems.

  • This position may require work on the weekends, evenings, and holidays dependent on operational needs.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of mechanic work experience documented in the work history section of the application or be a graduate of an industrial maintenance training program. (Can be a combination of employers if experience is at least 1 year).

  • Operate, maintain, and adjust the refrigeration system to support facility requirements.

  • Understanding of the basic refrigeration systems through Technical Schools, Military Training and/or Trades.

  • Ability to become a certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO) through RETA.

  • Ability to obtain a State of Maine High Pressure Steam Boiler License within eighteen (18) months of hire.

  • Able to wear an Air Purifying Respirator and a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.

  • Able to pass yearly Pulmonary Testing to maintain Ammonia Operator Position.

  • Able to work at heights, specifically on the facility roof.

  •  Complete IIAR Computer Based training per Tyson requirements.

  • Must be familiar with Plant Compressed Air Systems and all water supply systems (Ex: Chill Water, Hot Water Supply System, City Water, and glycol systems).

  • Must be able to work in harsh environments for short periods of time (Ex: Heat, cold, rain, snow, all types of weather conditions).

  • Must be able to read, write and use math skills to complete necessary paperwork.

  • Must be able to work competently and efficiently with little to no supervision.
