Position: Research Assistant II, Pediatrics

Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Hybrid

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Research Assistant II will conduct Children’s HealthWatch interviews with caregivers in the Pediatric Emergency Department, and assist with the training and guidance of interns and research assistants. The Children’s HealthWatch survey instrument gathers information on child health and development and family experiences with housing, food, employment, childcare, utilities, and use of public programs. The Research Assistant II will provide information to families regarding available resources and maintain the outreach library with up-to-date information.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts Children’s HealthWatch interviews with caregivers in the Pediatric Emergency Department, and provides outreach information to those who request resources
  • Maintains the Children’s HealthWatch Outreach Library for staff and resource materials for Children’s HealthWatch families.
  • Informs Children’s HealthWatch site coordinator of specific trends of outreach requests among Children’s HealthWatch families.
  • Assists with training/orientation of interns and research assistants.
  • Adheres to IRB Protocols and maintains patient confidentiality.

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Supports administrative needs of Children’s HealthWatch and the Grow Clinic, as needed.
  • Updates the six month log, as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required by time of hire. Master's Degree Preferred.
  • With Master's degree, no experience required

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 1 year in clinical research experience required. Experience in a hospital setting highly preferred.
  • Experience in public health research and community outreach, family advocacy, case management, or community organizing preferred.
  • Experience with recruiting subjects, with an understanding of the ethical and technical conduct of research.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent English communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual or multi-lingual skills (beyond that of English) appropriate to the patient population served is a plus.
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial and ethnic populations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Access and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with statistical analysis tools and quantitative data analysis software (e.g. SPSS, SAS, Minitab.) helpful.
  • Ability to perform basic data management (coding, data entry, data cleaning, retrieval) tasks.

This position is grant funded through 2029. There may be opportunity beyond this grant funding for position integration into ongoing operations.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

Children’s HealthWatch is a study monitoring the impact of social policies on the health, developmental status, and growth of low-income children seen in acute and emergency medical facilities. Study goals are: 1) To analyze the impact of public policy changes and the effectiveness of the safety net for low-income families in five states 2) To educate policymakers, advocacy groups, and community leaders by disseminating evidence-based reports and results of the Children’s HealthWatch data.
