Fran’s Cake and Candy Supplies is the largest supplier of cake- and cookie-decorating and candy-making supplies in the DC area. We offer a wide range of products for professional bakers and candy makers as well as hobbyists and those who are new to baking. We take pride in providing our customers with quality supplies and the latest tools. We don’t just sell products, though. Our customers are an extension of our family and we strive to provide them with guidance, assistance, and solutions for their baking and decorating projects.

Our team members are enthusiastic and are passionate about their work, about our customers and about baking. They perform a variety of tasks and assist in all areas of the store as needed.

Summary of Key Roles & Responsibilities:

As an Associate in our busy store, no two days will ever be the same -- merchandise arrives daily, unique questions from customers are frequent, and there are always new trends in cake/cookie decorating to explore and understand.

Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Responsibilities

• Provide customers with a positive shopping experience. This includes answering questions, providing recommendations, and assisting with product selection and purchases.
• Maintaining strong product knowledge for use in selling, merchandising, providing recommendations to customers. Ensuring team members are educated on new products and trends.
• Monitoring developments in the cake/cookie decorating community and staying on top of current trends
• Helping to ensure that the store is clean, well-organized and properly merchandised and stocked.
• Assisting with the unpacking, processing and restocking of incoming shipments or merchandise.
• Assisting with the packing and shipping of online orders.
• Performing store-recovery tasks and housekeeping (inside and out) as required during stocking efforts.
• Operating all equipment in a safe and effective manner.
• Ensuring a safe working and shopping environment while minimizing shrinkage and damages.

Qualifications:

• At least 18 years old
• Previous baking and decorating experience is required.
• High School graduate or GED equivalent

• Prior retail experience and merchandising skills are a plus
• This is a retail position, so you must be ready and willing to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays
• Computer savvy, with at-minimum intermediate computer and keyboarding skills and the ability to navigate computer/handheld systems.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with problems as they arise. The ability to think quickly and rationally to address ever-changing situations will help you succeed in the job.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while also being committed to creating an amazing customer experience
• Ability to continuously stand/walk; frequently push/pull; occasionally bend/stoop/crawl/reach above shoulders; kneel; climb a ladder, and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a diverse work environment.
• Must be able to effectively communicate in the English language, including the ability to speak, read, and understand English.
• Spanish language ability is a plus
