Job Description

Job Title: Safety and Security Manager

Department: Safety and Security

Reports To: Assistant Director of Logistics

Location: Centralized/All City Market Locations

Division/Status: Full-time exempt, Management/All Leadership Team

Summary

Effectively manage the safety and security functions of both City Market locations. Provide and maintain a high degree of security and safety for City Market customers, employees and City Market property. Hire, support and train Assistant Safety and Security managers on Loss Prevention protocols and techniques, as well as Standard Operating Procedures relevant to store emergency response. This position is also responsible for developing and maintaining department policies and procedures which contribute to storewide goals. Exhibit a sense of urgency when responding to all emergency situations. Monitor daily activity on the sales floor to ensure policies and procedures are being followed. Responsibilities may include security related functions such as special events.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Maintain physical presence on sales floor. Commitment to devote at least half of shift to working on the sales floor, enhancing a positive customer experience while physically observing and watching for safety and security concerns. Create, implement and update security plans; provide safety trainings to both managers and employees.
  • Document and report all incidents and events related to safety and security accordingly.
  • Monitor and audit security systems on a regular basis to provide maximum benefit to Co-op.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers, employees, local LP officers and law enforcement officials. Perform security walks throughout shift to ensure general work environment is safe and secure.
  • Apprehend shoplifters, when applicable. Investigate various loss prevention matters including shoplifting, internal theft, deliberate damage to product or company property, and any other suspicious or illegal activities while following proper procedures, guidelines and policies.
  • Investigate disturbances and warn violators of infractions such as loitering, smoking, and disorderly conduct.
  • Maintain Security Incident Log, Security Alert and Trespass Binders and provide regular updates to Assistant Director of Operations-Logistics.
  • Ensure appropriate, ongoing communication and prompt follow-ups regarding security incidents.
  • Remain informed of Loss Prevention industry knowledge and conditions of current local retail market.
  • Offer and solicit constructive feedback on how current systems or departments can be improved to mitigate shrink in all forms, both internally and externally caused.
  • Model and demonstrate outstanding customer service in all areas of the job with a constant focus on excellent customer experience and utilization of customer interactions as a theft deterrent.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Four years or more of security related experience which includes the use of CCTV security systems. Loss prevention experience preferred.
  • Four years or more of managerial experience; scheduling and training experience in a retail setting preferred.
  • Four years or more of customer service-related employment preferred.
  • Knowledge of natural and conventional foods and the food industry preferred.
  • LPC, LPQ, or other equivalent Loss Prevention certification preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Solid understanding of Office 365.
  • Previous Closed Circuit Television experience preferred.
