OnScent has an opportunity for a career minded Sample Lab Operations Supervisor who will be the driving force behind the seamless operation of both our Fragrance Creative & Sample Labs. This role is pivotal in leading a dedicated team of lab technicians, material handlers, and shipping coordinators, ensuring the punctual delivery of high-quality fragrance samples.

Your responsibilities extend to the implementation of process enhancements, including system upgrades and the establishment of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). You will be a key player in our continuous pursuit of operational excellence.

Initially, you will report directly to the Director of Scent Design, with a dotted line to the Senior Vice President of Operations. Over time, your reporting line will transition into Operations. The position is located in Hackensack, NJ with regular travel to Norwood, NJ.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and supervise the production and distribution of fragrance samples to support product development, sales, and marketing teams.
• Ensure that fragrance samples are prepared accurately and in a timely manner, following established guidelines and quality standards.
• Implement and enforce stringent quality control processes to maintain the consistency and quality of fragrance samples.
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the sample and application labs, including equipment maintenance, cleanliness, and organization.
• Manage inventory levels of sample materials, fragrance ingredients, and packaging supplies to meet demand.
• Recruit, train, and lead a team of lab technicians and application chemists.
• Foster a collaborative and productive work environment, and provide guidance and mentorship to team members to enhance their skills and efficiency.
• Maintain accurate records of inventory levels and consumption of fragrance ingredients and sample materials.
• Implement efficient inventory control measures to minimize waste and ensure timely re-ordering
• Collaborate closely with Perfumers, Evaluators and Analytical Perfumer to prioritize sample production based on project requirements, timelines, and promotional campaigns.
• Maintain clear communication channels to ensure the lab meets project needs.
• Prepare regular reports on sample production activities, inventory status, and lab performance.
• Maintain detailed records of sample formulations, production processes, and distribution for traceability and analysis.
• Develop and manage the lab budget, including cost control and resource allocation.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining the quality and efficiency of sample production.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications or training in fragrance or laboratory management are a plus.
• Must have 1-3 years experience directly supervising in a lab environment.
• Previous experience in a fragrance lab or a related environment is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of fragrance ingredients, formulations, and sample production processes.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in laboratory equipment operation and data tracking.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining sample quality and accuracy.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
• Knowledge of safety protocols and regulatory requirements related to fragrance sample production.
• Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing priorities and demands.
