Job Description

Are you looking for an opportunity to impact children's lives and help them develop live skills through an experiential learning model? Do you need experience working with kids to help build your resume? Laramie Educational Afterschool Facility (LEAF) is currently hiring for our afterschool and summer program.

The Assistant Coordinator will be responsible for leading a classroom as well as helping the Coordinator in mentoring and assisting teachers to reach their full potential. The Assistant Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the operation of the facility in the coordinator's absence.

School year hours are M-F 2:30 PM-6 PM on school days and requires additional hours on no school days (open 6:30 AM-6:00 PM) during the school year. Summer hours are 6:30 AM-6 PM. We work with students to develop a schedule for those days! Current students are encouraged to apply.

SCHOOL AGE PROGRAM TEACHER

Teachers work directly with LEAF Program Coordinator to implement a high-quality learning environment enriched with development of life skills and STEM experience through natural resources, gardening and teacher-led curriculum. Teachers build valuable experience in creating lesson plans, classroom management and curriculum development as a platform for anticipated teaching careers.

I) INTRODUCTION:

To provide quality school age program education by planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum for children of differing abilities. Positions are part time during the school year and full time during summer and school holidays. We will work with class schedules for days there are not school during the year, but availability during winter and spring breaks is required.

II) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Form a warm and loving relationship with each child in the classroom.

2) Provide a variety of developmentally appropriate curriculum activities for children to achieve classroom and individual goals. Develop a daily schedule and weekly lesson plans, and provide appropriate materials and equipment.

3) Provide a safe, healthy physical environment.

4) Communicate regularly with parents through a variety of means, regarding classroom activities, child’s progress, etc.

5) Provide large and small group instruction, play and other activities for the facilitation of the development and learning of children with diverse needs.

6) Other duties as assigned relating to the effective delivery of services to children and their families.

7) Drive small bus or passenger van to transport children as needed.

III) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Development and Family Studies, or a closely related field or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred; Associate’s degree or equivalent credit hours required. Current college students are encouraged to apply. Applicants over 21 and those with passenger rated CDL drivers license (or willingness to get) will receive special consideration.

IV) ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Must be able to operate equipment typical in classroom and office settings, including assembling and dissembling toys and equipment. Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and speaking with a variety of audiences including parents, professionals and community members. Must understand the federal and state statues and interpret rules and procedures. Should be organized and be able to work independently. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift up to fifty pounds, and be patient as well as agile in bending, walking other positions necessary for the care of children. Willingness and ability to travel in own vehicle throughout assigned service area.

Pay: $12.00 - $13.00 per hour
