The Maryland Department of Agriculture is a department under Maryland's Executive Branch. Formed in 1972 by the Maryland General Assembly to address the agriculture needs for the State of Maryland, the Department oversees and serves as a regulatory body for animal health , consumer services to include marketing and lab services, plant and pest management and resource conservation. LOCATION

Employees will be assigned to one of five regional offices in Maryland. You will be instructed to indicate each county in which you are willing to work when completing your JobAps application.

DUTIES

MOSQUITO CONTROL FIELD TECHNICIAN/FIELD SUPERVISOR/FIELD AIDE

• To assist with mosquito control surveillance and control activities in Maryland. On the job training will be provided.

MOSQUITO CONTROL SPRAY TRUCK DRIVERS

• This position will require the employee to operate a State vehicle equipped with an ultra-low volume insecticide sprayer to control mosquitoes in communities, residential areas and parks according to pre-planned routes. The employee will complete forms to document the insecticide application and will interact with the public to provide information as needed. Carries out mosquito surveillance and control activities under moderate supervision. Training will be provided. No experience necessary. Hours are evening, night and/or early morning, depending on the office of operation.

JOB DUTIES FOR ALL POSITIONS MAY INCLUDE:

• Handling, mixing and applying pesticides
• Safe operation of department spray equipment and trucks
• Mosquito Collection
• Field Inspection
• Record Keeping
• Supervision

QUALIFICATIONS

Spray Truck Drivers, Field Technicians and Field Supervisors

• High School Diploma or GED required. Each candidate must be at least 18 years of age and possess a driver's license valid in Maryland, with no more than 5 points on the candidate's driving record.

Field Aides

• Minimum age 18.

ADDITIONAL INFOMATION

Applications are currently being accepted for ALL positions. Contract period will be begin in the Spring and run through late Summer/Early Fall. All positions are paid hourly. We have Day and Night shifts available which may have the option of part-time and full-time hours. The work is to be performed Sunday to Thursday in the Maryland Department of Agriculture's Mosquito Control Program. This is contractual employment and workers will be paid for actual hours worked only. Contractual paid leave and health benefits available.

NOTE: Hours will vary due to weather and other factors. This position is eligible for an additional hourly pay differential.

College students are encourage to apply to work through the summer season from May to August.
