About us

Excelsior Classical Academy is a tuition-free public charter school with a rigorous, college-preparatory, liberal arts focus based on the classical Trivium of Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric, the first three liberal arts. Throughout their studies, our students are trained in virtues and core values, such as citizenship, cooperation, courage, honesty, integrity, perseverance, respect, and responsibility.

Excelsior Classical Academy is accepting applications for a classroom teacher for Second Grade for the 2024-2025 school year. All candidates for employment at Excelsior must be authorized to work in the United States and be able to clear a criminal background check. ECA does not sponsor J-1 or H-1B visas.

Position Overview

Provide instruction and direction to students in accordance with Excelsior's approved curriculum; meet educational requirements of the State of North Carolina; interact with parents and volunteers; supervise assistant teacher, student teachers, or volunteers assigned to their respective classrooms if applicable; and be responsible, in collaboration with other faculty members and staff, for accomplishing the mission of Excelsior Classical Academy.

Position Specifics

  • Support the mission, philosophy, and vision of Excelsior Classical Academy
  • Maintain congruence between Excelsior’s mission statement and all instructional activities
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to Excelsior’s mission, philosophy, and goals
  • Collaborate with other teachers to create or update Core Knowledge Domain Maps and yearly Curriculum Plan
  • Teach Excelsior’s approved curriculum
  • Meet the educational requirements of the State of North Carolina
  • Model attitudes and behaviors that are desired for our students
  • Manage classroom behavior in a kind but firm manner
  • Hold high standards and expectations for all students
  • Communicate with parents in a polite and professional manner
  • Provide before- or after-school tutoring at least once a week
  • Analyzing various forms of data (MAP or EOG data, etc.) to identify opportunities to identify areas of need for students
  • Work with Student Support Services staff as applicable

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher required
  • At least three years of successful teaching experience strongly preferred
  • Current North Carolina Teaching License strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated interest and engagement in professional learning and reflection
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a positive collaborative member of a team

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $61,600.00 per year

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
