Position Details

  • Title: Security Officer
  • Location : Public Service Area
  • Hours: Full-Time (40 hours/ week)
  • Schedule: May vary, but will include day, evening, and weekend hours
  • Starting Annual Salary : $53,644

Position Summary:

The Security Officer oversees the security function of the library. The Officer works to create a library environment that is safe and comfortable for library patrons. The Officer assists staff and contracted vendor with implementation of security practices, monitors activity for compliance with adopted security procedures and assists with other assigned department projects.

A successful candidate will…

  • Excellent customer services skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in related field
  • Three to five years of relevant experience
  • Able to cope with daily job-related stress and challenges.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.

What does the job look like?

    • Curates the system wide training of Library Security Assistants to ensure consistent application of policies and procedures across the system.
    • Ensures that library locations are aware of and are carrying out security policies and procedures consistently.
    • Supports branch managers in the hiring and evaluation of Library Security Assistants.
    • Partners with managers to train staff on emergency action plans.
    • Responds to concerns of branch safety liaisons and coordinates solutions.
    • Responds to security incidents for the organization. Investigates security issues. Works with law enforcement agencies to obtain video/paperwork requests for criminal issues and preserves evidence as needed.
    • Assists in creation of RFP for Security Services and selection of Security Services contractor. Assists with administration of the Security Services contract, including review of submitted invoices, review of contract procedures and training.
    • Ensures that appropriate security is available for meetings of the library board.
    • Able to work the normally scheduled work time for this position.
    • Able to cope with daily job-related stress.
