Job Summary
Responsible for low level security assignments with direction from senior team members. Establish basic understanding of Security operations and processes, which may include research and investigation of security events or project related activities. Assesses security controls through security testing or other means to ensure effectiveness. Create documentation and work activities in a clear, comprehensive manner, always maintaining high quality work. Demonstrates problem solving, research, and functional area knowledge.
Job Description
Essential Job Functions:
  • Monitor information security technologies to identify suspicious and malicious activities across the enterprise (e.g., analyzes network traffic, vulnerability scans, identification of computer malware, unauthorized user activity) which may compromise the integrity and availability of systems.
  • Analyze and monitor security violations, alerts and malware detection events and acts as a liaison regarding reported security events.
  • Identify, investigate, respond to and mitigate possible security exceptions and incidents related to reported, detected and derived threat activities in real time.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations using best practices and tools.
  • Identify and initiate resolution of problems that involve analysis of inadequate or conflicting data.
  • Participate in threat and information sharing efforts with Federal Agencies, Sector Organizations and Security Partners within and external to the company.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and capability to rapidly switch from one activity to another.
  • Keep cyber security as the focal point during all activities.
  • Collaborate with technology partners, support representatives, and IT management to coordinate and remediate security incidents.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • OR Associates degree with one year relevant experience in system administration/help desk/security (cyber or physical)
  • OR High School Diploma/GED with 2 years relevant experience in IT system administration/help desk/security (cyber or physical);
  • OR graduation from an approved Cybersecurity Program; alternatively may have non-degree qualifications (such as hands-on demonstrated ability in a technical interview/assessment).
Experience: No additional experience required in addition to experience identified above.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Have or be capable of obtaining a SECRET DoD clearance.
  • Experience with security tools and technologies such as SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), virtualization, encryption, antivirus, firewall, vulnerability management, virtual private network technologies, full packet capture, deep packet inspection, intrusion detection, forensic and malware analysis, etc.
  • Experience with computer network operations, information operations, and information warfare.
  • Experience creating and understanding scripting languages including Python, Bash, JavaScript and PowerShell.
  • Experience identifying patterns of complex threat actor behavior and communicate an understanding of current and developing Cyber threats to the larger community.
  • Experience working at major public, or private sector security organizations in incident response and threat hunting.
  • CISM, CISSP, GREM, GMON, GCED, GPEN, GCIH, GCIA, GNFA, GCFA, Sec+, CEH, Net+ and any other security certifications is desirable
  • Able to process cyber-threat intelligence and quickly identify impacts to the enterprise.
  • Able to work a rotating 24 X 7 X 365 schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Able to use a variety of enterprise security tools to observe and evaluate network and endpoint behavior of a large enterprise.
  • Able to demonstrate security-specific knowledge of Windows, UNIX/Linux, and networks especially TCP/IP and common Internet protocols
  • Possess strong personal skills required including ability to work both in groups and independently, showing initiative, handle stressful security incidents, and work well and learn from other information security co-workers.
  • Able to properly handle sensitive and confidential investigations or assignments.
  • Able to demonstrate flexibility and capability to switch between complex activities on short notice.
  • Possesses strong collaborative and teambuilding skills to foster group productivity and create a friendly and inclusive work environment.
  • Demonstrate a critical thinking mindset.
Scheduling:
SOC/CIRC: Work shifts that rotate throughout month/year covering all possible schedule variations/rotation possibilities.
SOC/CIRC: Plan activities effectively within the context of round-the-clock, shift operations.

Compensation Grade:
SP20-006
Compensation Range:
$70,961.00-88,700.50 USD
Candidates will be considered based on their qualifications and the candidate’s ability to work from an approved work location. Although the location is flexible, AEP does not have a presence in all states and localities. The following locations are NOT currently approved for this position: AK, CA, CO, CT, DE, HI, IA, ID, KS, MA, ME, MS, MT, ND, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, RI, SD, UT, VT, WY, US Territories or international work locations. AEP will consider qualified candidates who are willing to relocate to an approved work location, at the candidate’s expense, provided the relocation can be completed within a timeframe that meets AEP’s staffing needs.
