Job Description

Opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer to join Micro-Motion’s US R&D team.  This individual will be a member of the Sustaining Engineering Team, and the primary responsibility of this role is to support Micro-Motion’s existing product lines.  Micro-Motion products are used in an array of medical devices including surgical tools as well as in aerospace and other industrial applications. The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for supporting technical problem solving and processing change requests. 

The R&D team is an essential component of Micro-Motion's growth strategy, requiring creative, effective, and flexible candidates able to succeed in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This position will report into our Sustaining Engineering Manager and is located in West Chester, PA.

What You’ll Do

Along with those identified below, other duties may be assigned. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Quality Assurance, Supplier Quality, Planning, Purchasing, Regulatory, and Manufacturing, to maintain and improve existing products

  • Independently research solutions, troubleshoot, and resolve complex problems by analyzing product data

  • Lead formal problem-solving events to identify root cause(s) and implement effective countermeasures

  • Identify and mitigate potential product risks and issues

  • Support customer RMA analysis to provide sustainable solutions

  • Interact with Application Engineering, customers and suppliers to ensure design solutions meet the customer’s expectations

  • Support Facilitate change requests, which includes Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)

  • Support VAVE initiatives to control cost

Critical Competencies

  • High sense of urgency and results driven

  • Ability to work in a cross functional, manufacturing environment

  • Strong communication, time and project management skills required

  • Demonstrated proficiency leading problem-solving events using formal tools

  • Experience with GD&T and conducting stack-up analysis

  • Demonstrated ability to use data & designed experiments to make decisions & solve problems

  • Experience leading DFMEA/PFMEA events

  • Familiarity with various manufacturing processes (Examples such as: Laser welding, transfer molding, assembly techniques, CNC machining)

  • Familiarity with inspection and measurement tools (CMM, caliper, micrometer, gauges)

  • Familiarity with CAD modeling, tooling design, and 3D printing

  • Exposure to Product Development Life Cycle (PLDC) of a manufactured product from concept to launch

  • Exposure to Engineering Change Management

  • Preferred experience with Solidworks and Oracle ERP software

Requirements

  • Relevant degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering or related field

  • 7+ years manufacturing or design experience

  • A strong understanding of quality systems and other process improvement tools

  • Green belt certification (or higher), preferred

  • Experience with electric motors or precision rotating equipment, preferred

  • Experience with QS and ISO requirements, preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
