Job Description: Spanish Immersion Classroom Assistant M-F, 6.5 Hours/Day

FTE: 6.5 hours/day M-F student contact days

Job Summary: As a Spanish Immersion Classroom Assistant, you will work closely with the classroom teacher to support students in an immersion environment. Your role will involve helping with lesson implementation, managing classroom activities, and providing individualized support to students to enhance their learning experience in both the subject matter and the target language.

Essential Functions:

• Classroom Support: Assist the teacher with daily classroom activities, including setting up materials, managing classroom supplies, and maintaining a positive and organized learning environment.
• Student Assistance: Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, helping them with their assignments, understanding content, and practicing language skills.
• Instructional Support: Aid in the delivery of lessons by preparing materials, conducting activities, and helping to clarify concepts for students in both the subject area and the foreign language.
• Classroom Management: Support the teacher in maintaining discipline and a positive learning atmosphere within the classroom.
• Professional Development: Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Proficiency in Spanish and strong communication skills in English are required. Native or near-native fluency is preferred.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Patience, adaptability, enthusiasm for working with students, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
• Prior experience working in an educational setting or with language acquisition programs is advantageous.

Physical Requirements:

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing and speaking or hearing, frequently requires walking and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and occasionally requires sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
