The State Outreach Director in the College of Education plays a crucial leadership role in advancing the mission and goals of the College. This position engages in state-specific outreach, research, and support around education testing, certification, pathways, regulations, and programs in the College of Education. The State Outreach collaborates with faculty, staff, college leaders, and other internal and external stakeholders to enhance the quality of service, candidate preparedness and proficiency, and stakeholder knowledge of state-related testing, certification, pathways, regulations, and programs required for education preparation.
Target Hire: August 12, 2024
Location: Phoenix based, hybrid office schedule
Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 8am to 5pm

What You Will Do:
  • Academic Leadership: Provide outreach, research, and support to leadership in the development and implementation of state-specific testing, academic programs, curriculum, and certification initiatives within the College of Education. Collaborate with university, college, and external/state stakeholders to enhance and align state regulatory practices for education preparation programs and certification requirements. Identify and lead initiatives around state-specific testing, pathways, programs, and supports. Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards and support continuous improvement in program quality.
  • Faculty and Staff Development and Management: Support leadership through professional development and training among key stakeholders, such as faculty, staff, counselors, etc. around state-specific testing, certification, programs, and pathways.
  • Student Success and Engagement: Engage in research to inform strategies to enhance student recruitment, retention, and overall success, particularly as it relates to state-specific certification and exam support and training. Support leadership in state-specific certification and exam research, support, and training, as well as remediation, appeal, and escalation supports for state-specific student needs.
  • Administrative Oversight: Engage in state-specific research, outreach, and support around education testing, certification, pathways, and programs. Collaborate with other academic units, departments, and administrative offices within the institution including, but not limited to, working as a liaison to the following departments: Academic Records, Operations, State Compliance, Office of Field Experience.
  • Participate in strategic planning and contribute to the development and adherence to regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Community Engagement: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with external partners, including state representatives and industry stakeholders in various states. Perform collaborative research with university departments in various states.
What You Will Have:
  • Content Expertise: Knowledge of professional subject matter, practices, and pedagogies in disciplines related to the College. Ability to maintain currency and stay informed of changing conditions in state specific certification requirements. Strong understanding of education-related and distance learning-related accreditation and regulatory standards and processes. Strong understanding of pathways and programs leading to educator licensure.
  • Communication and Style: Effective oral and written communication skills with ability to articulate the university’s and college’s mission and strategic goals and objectives. Demonstrates integrity and ethical behavior congruent with GCU’s pillars and mission, and COE’s Core Values, with a commitment to Christian virtues. Ability to develop collaborative and cooperative relationships with colleagues, faculty, staff, administration, and other internal and external stakeholders. Ability to collaborate with and support a diverse group of internal and external departments to enhance ongoing growth and academic excellence. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
  • Education and Experience: Master’s degree required; PhD, EdD, or terminal degree preferred in a related field. Demonstrated experience in an academic setting, preferably in PreK-12 and/or higher education administration preferred. Experience with budget management, grant funding, and/or resource allocation.
