Job Description

THE POSITION

The Department of Agriculture is seeking a licensed veterinarian position to provide professional veterinary expertise in regulatory medicine and perform test barn activities (pre-race and post-race detention barn) at Pocono Downs Racetrack. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The role of this position entails overseeing all operations, tasks, and staff members within the detention barn, which serves as the location for collecting urine and blood samples from horses before and after races for examination purposes. The Veterinarian assumes the responsibility of administering medication to the horses, ensuring their well-being and compliance with any necessary treatments.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Part-time (per diem) employment.
  • Work hours are 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM on Sunday.
  • Work schedule is vendor controlled and is determined by the racing schedule.
  • Salary: This position is per diem; the daily rate of pay is $400.00.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:


  • Graduation from a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Medical Doctor program.

Special Requirement:
  • Possession of a valid license to practice veterinary medicine as issued by a State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.

Post Employment Requirement:
  • If the employee is not licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Pennsylvania, he/she must obtain Pennsylvania licensure within twelve (12) months of being hired.
Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
