Job Description

The Substitute Secretary position may be called in to work on an as needed, per diem basis in Elementary, Middle or High Schools. There is no guarantee of a specific number of days. Work will be done under the supervision of the Principal, Dean or other Supervisor, depending on the work location.

Arlington uses Frontline/Absence Management, an automated substitute assignment system.

QUALIFICATIONS:
This person should possess a consistent demonstration of effective interpersonal relationship skills, which will enable him/her to interact in a professional manner with students, parents, staff and agencies, and work cooperatively in the school.
  • Capacity to work in a confidential manner.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work assignments is essential, particularly during periods of concentrated activity.
  • General knowledge of standard office procedures that includes a variety of clerical and secretarial duties.
  • Proofreading skills for correcting grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors of typed material and for proper format, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Ability to use a variety of computer applications, i.e. word processing and spreadsheet skills, Excel, desktop publishing and Internet searches.
DUTIES:
  • Respond to inquiries from parents and staff in a congenial and professional manner
  • Input and oversee daily attendance procedures
  • Manage student dismissal process
  • Correspondence and typing as assigned including composing of routine letters
  • Manage office supplies, routines, mail, and copy machines
  • Support Principal, Dean or other Supervisor with daily tasks as needed
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by Principal, Dean and/or Supervisor.
