Job Description

Position Summary: The Supervisor of Kinship provides support and supervision to Kinship Care Coordinators and Specialists providing direct service.

Location: Topeka

Education: Bachelor’s degree, in a field that is eligible to be licensed by the BSRB, from an accredited college or university; OR Master’s degree, in a field that is eligible to be licensed by the BSRB at the master’s or clinical level, from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Three years’ experience in children and family services Requires Intermediate computer skills in typing/keyboarding, Microsoft Word and Excel programs as well as Outlook email

Licensure/Certification: Licensed by the Kansas BSRB

Essential Duties:


  • Supervise Kinship Care Coordinators and Specialists
  • Build a safe, family-centered, and evidence-based child welfare system
  • Provide bi-weekly supervision to staff; available 24/7 for crisis calls
  • Ensure team meets performance expectations, timelines, and regulations
  • Support staff needs and assign new referrals based on strengths and skills
  • Deliver direct services per program guidelines and comply with regulatory standards
  • Complete required paperwork and follow agency policies
  • Attend meetings, acquire resources, and provide culturally sensitive services
  • Supervise Social Work interns and offer backup support as needed
  • Observe children for signs of abuse/neglect and participate as an organizational trainer
  • Understand and improve contract outcomes; attend required trainings
  • Train staff on kinship care and community resources, assist with difficult cases
  • Conduct home studies, background checks, and facilitate Kinship Care placements
  • Educate kinship placements on reunification and boundary setting
  • Complete adoption home studies, develop safety plans, and conduct monthly Kinship Groups
  • Engage in community and national kinship care groups, document all client interactions and case activities
