JOB SUMMARY:

To assist in the planning and performance of all CNC and/or manual machining operations for tooling and its customers within demanding time constraints. May be required to work under the guidance of higher-grade operators.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

While under supervision, works from a variety of control media and program documentation to plan, setup, operate and adjust numerically controlled (CNC) milling machines to produce a wide variety of intricately designed parts and details involving compound angles, contours and surfaces utilizing the full capabilities of 3-axis, 4-axis, or 5-axis machines.

While under supervision, will improvise setups and exercise some mental and visual attention to prevent errors and mistakes that result in expensive losses of tools, fixtures, material, and equipment. Assists in the set ups and maintains precise tool configurations. Coordinates any changes in tool setups with programming. Mounts and checks cutting tools in holders, and properly hand loads in machine magazine or spindle. Obtains information from drawing, documents, programming, control media, sketches, and verbal information. Makes preparations and necessary adjustments to ready the machine for operation. Uses precision measuring instruments, gauges, and tools to dimensionally check and set cutting tools and /or parts for conformance to prints, lofts and specifications. Required to follow shop safety policies, practices, and procedures.

EDUCATION:

Must have a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or a bronze level WorkKeys certification and a vocational certificate/diploma related to CNC machining or two (2) complete years of vocational training related to CNC machining experience or equivalent CNC machining experience. Requires the use of shop math including handbook formulas, drawings and specifications and a variety of precision measuring instruments.

EXPERIENCE:

Requires minimum 6 months of milling machine experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Typical machine shop working conditions with occasional exposure to coolant and noise. May be required to machine exotic materials that may, on occasion create unpleasant working conditions.
