Essential Functions

  • Support divisional leadership, support services and other subject matter experts to assess training needs, develop targeted training programs, and ensure that training content is accurate, relevant, and up to date.
  • Assist, as needed, with updating training curriculum to support Bethesda University courses, leadership development, and the mentorship program.
  • Assess current training programs for value, scope, and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify training needs through surveys, interviews, and communication with managers, directors, and the leadership team.
  • Design and develop customized and interactive training programs and curricula, including presentations, videos, group discussions, job aids, and other resource that align with organizational goals and employee skill gaps.
  • Build annual training programs and prepare teaching plans.
  • Develop, implement, and deliver training programs for employees at all levels, both in-person and virtually, ensuring effective delivery and engagement.
  • Ensure training programs adhere to legal, regulatory, and organizational policies and procedures, particularly in fields requiring certifications and/or compliance standards.
  • Schedule training sessions that may take place either online, or in-person.
  • Facilitate workshops, seminars, or training sessions, either in-person or virtually, using various instructional techniques such as lectures, group discussions, and hands-on activities.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through assessments, surveys, and feedback mechanisms, and make continuous improvements based on results.
  • Assist the VP of Health Services with maintaining the Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Maintain records of training and development activities, attendance, results of tests/assessments, and retraining requirements.
  • Report to management on the effectiveness of training efforts.
  • Develop and maintain continued educational support materials for reference once training has been completed.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in training and development and incorporate new methodologies and technologies as appropriate.
  • Partner with HR team members and department leaders to support employees onboarding, career development, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Provide individual coaching and support to employees seeking to enhance their skills or pursue professional development opportunities.
  • Oversee the budget for training programs, including costs for materials, trainers, and external vendors.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Managerial Breadth/Scope of Job

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

To effectively meet organizational training goals, the Training and Development Specialist should have a strong passion for learning and development, excellent instructional design skills, and the ability to effectively communicate and engage with employees at all levels.

  • Experience designing and delivering a variety of training formats, including instructor-led, e-learning, virtual, and blended learning solutions.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS) and other training technology tools.
  • Must be able to respond positively to constructive criticism and feedback from others.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers, scanners, digital copiers, and printers.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and the ability to learn and work with other training software.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English.
  • Must maintain a current drivers license and comply with all requirements of Bethesdas Auto Policy.

Education/Experience

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

  • Two plus years experience in training and development, instructional design, or a related field.
  • Previous experience with a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Previous experience in Senior Living settings a plus.

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelors Degree preferred or equivalent education, training, and experience.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements

Overnight travel by air and/or automobile (30+ percent of time) occasionally in extreme weather conditions. Moderate physical activity for handling objects up to forty pounds occasionally and up to twenty pounds frequently. Mobility to train within office and senior living communities. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
