Job Description

Overview of the Position:

The transportation specialist is responsible for transportation services to HH Infectious Disease patients who do not have other transportation options. Ensures van maintenance and operations are monitored and completed. May be asked to assist with support tasks that involve community and testing events.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a HS diploma or G.E.D.
  • Experience providing transportation services is preferred
  • Experience working with special populations affected by stigma, a compromised health status, and a variety of social and cultural backgrounds is preferred
  • A driving record that is clear for the last ten years.
  • A SLED checks that does not indicate a compromise in judgment within the ten years
  • Valid South Carolina driver’s license.

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Ability to safely and legally drive a van while following the law and maintaining a pleasant disposition with clients
  • Ability to assess and complete maintenance/transportation needs
  • Ability to read, analyzes, and interpret general technical procedures
  • Ability to handle confidential information with great sensitivity
  • Ability to follow orders and work with limited supervision
  • Good reasoning abilities, sound judgment, communications skills
  • Handle multiple tasks, and work together with other members of a team

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No direct reports

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides transportation services for clients without transportation options in order to reduce barriers to care associated with lack of transportation. Ensures safe transport of patients in attending clinic and other-related appointments at HopeHealth and in the community
  • · Provides transportation for staff on various occasions, staff meetings and trainings
  • · Maintains a professional relationship with clients while transporting, to include pleasant conversation, education related issues of HIV/AIDS, and emotional support as needed
  • · Maintains van maintenance & cleaning
  • · Practices de-escalation techniques and conflict management skills as needed
  • · Represents HH with excellence and professional behavior, realizing that community visibility is a key factor in raising awareness of HIV/AIDS and the services HH provides
  • · Maintains communication with immediate supervisor/Practice Administrator re: van needs and status
  • · Maintains communication with case management staff re: clients and transportation concerns or clients and social/medical/psychological concerns Maintain van mileage chart accurately and in a timely manner: submits to supervisor for review / approval
  • · Documents transportation services per protocol in statewide database Utilizes agency credit card for van maintenance as indicated by HH policy Other duties as assigned
  • Must be able to travel in-state
  • · Must have direct client contact in order to provide program activities
  • · Must be physically capable of climbing a ladder to drive a van, assist clients who may need help due to weight issues, a physical handicap, and/or vision problems
  • · Must have the physical stamina to complete job duties as needed and maintain a safe, clean and welcoming transportation environment

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift 30 pounds. Vision and hearing corrected to within normal limits is required. Must have manual dexterity to key in data; utilize computer, grab, grip, hold, tear, cut, sort, and reach.
