Volunteer Coordinator
Refugee and Immigrant Support Services of Emmaus (RISSE)

Located in the Pine Hills community of Albany NY, RISSE provides comprehensive, year-round English Language and supportive services to the refugee and immigrant community, RISSE operates Youth Programs, Adult English Literacy/Language Program, civics classes, life skills orientation, job search assistance, and more. Our mission is to equip refugees and recent immigrants to build sustainable, independent lives by offering language and literacy instruction and support with life skills and integration into the United State culture and community.

Position Description: Volunteer Coordinator (part-time)

The volunteer coordinator recruits RISSE volunteers who match the needs of the organization; is responsible for their initial onboarding; and provides support, including problem-solving around volunteer issues.

Reports to: Executive Director, who will at least annually evaluate the employee's performance on the basis of the elements of this job description and the personnel policies of RISSE.

Qualifications: This position requires at least a HS diploma. Experience with record keeping & databases; highly organized; independent; responsive with excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred qualifications include: knowledge of basic first aid and implementation of universal precautions, experience working with and training volunteers.

Hours and Schedule: 20-25 hours/week, Monday through Friday

Illustration of Duties:

Coordination of volunteers: The volunteer coordinator recruits RISSE volunteers and is responsible for their initial onboarding. The onboarding process will include: an education on the background of our client population, the programs and roles played by RISSE in the community, logistics, and expectations of volunteers.

Responding to volunteer inquiries: The volunteer coordinator responds to online volunteer interest-forms, sends volunteer applications, reviews the applications, determines a best-fit volunteer position. The volunteer coordinator works with the new volunteer to create a schedule and connects the volunteer with the staff member who they will be supporting.

Coordination with RISSE staff, leadership and stakeholders: The volunteer coordinator communicates with staff, leadership and stakeholders to match organization needs with volunteer skill sets. The coordinator also provides problem-solving around volunteer issues in collaboration with relevant staff.

Liaison: The volunteer coordinator serves as a liaison for one-time service groups.

Compliance: Complies with all applicable federal and state regulations and ensures volunteers adhere to these standards

Training: Attends all training as directed by the supervisor.

Other duties as assigned, including any duties that may be grant related (e.g. attending trainings).

Compensation: This position is paid on an hourly basis. Compensation based upon qualifications and experience, ranging from $20 to $22 per hour.
