VP, Business Operations – Medical Segment

Position Summary

Reporting to the Head of Global Technical Services - Medical Segment, the VP Business Operations - Medical Segment is responsible for ensuring Supply Chain, Procurement and Manufacturing Operations meets the needs of our Business Units (BU) and Global Product strategies.

The VP, Business Operations will build a team of professionals to liaise with BU stakeholders and Product Leaders to understand key business requirements while collaborating with Global Procurement leaders, Manufacturing, Logistics, Planning and Engineering.

The VP, Business Operations will translate business requirements to the end to end Supply Chain.

The VP will be enabled by the use of procurement technology, standard policies and processes, and governance to optimize effectiveness and efficiency of the function.

The success of the Business Operations function will be measured by internal stakeholder satisfaction and value realization in the form of improved cost, quality, service levels, risk, and innovation.

Position Description


Build and manage a team of professionals that act as the primary point of contact for their assigned business units

Own the translation of business unit strategies into supply chain impacts (Procurement, Manufacturing, Engineering, Logistics as well as supply assurance, quality, regulatory, services, cost, and innovation).

Liaise between business unit stakeholders and global category leaders to ensure business requirements are defined, clearly documented and addressed.

Promote and maximize the use of approved sourcing category strategies using standard processes and professional program management practices.

Proactively identify emerging opportunities within the BUs to enable prioritization of Procurement and Manufacturing efforts.

Will own and manage the “make versus buy” process including business case development.

Ensure delivery of projects through implementation of a formal Program Management Office.

Continually monitor and prioritize opportunities on business side and work with Global Products and Supply Chain (GPSC) to ensure alignment of strategies and priorities.

Asses S&OP outputs for impact to Manufacturing and Procurement in alignment with the Planning team

Create alignment within the Business units for supporting category strategy execution.

Work collectively with Sustaining Engineering and R&D to align prioritization across critical categories and projects.

Directly lead critical or strategic projects that involve executive business unit leaders.

Influence all levels of the organization to enable maturity of the procurement function and Global Manufacturing Supply Chain (GMSC) Ascend program.

Continuously improve the function by monitoring performance, steadily raising expectations and adjusting the organization and business processes to achieve results.

Effectively balances competing constraints between business priorities and Operations objectives, using creativity to achieve both as much as practical.

Contributes to process excellence, bringing best practices to Cardinal Health and being a champion for change

Become a trusted advisor to the Business Unit and Product Leaders.

Mentors subordinates and less experienced colleagues to improve bench strength and succession plans.


Bachelor’s Degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred

MBA preferred

15+ years’ experience in related field (supply chain, procurement, product management, operational excellence, etc.)

5+ years in an influencing or customer service role

Past experience leading and executing business transformation initiatives

Prior experiences leading and managing within a highly regulated environment

Strong interpersonal, consultative skills, including experience leading a major change management initiative

Strong leadership skills and team building skills, along with the ability to work effectively in a matrix environment

Global experience preferred

Travel expectations: 25%+
