Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have basic literacy skills and basic math skills. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints. Should have basic knowledge in all areas of welding: Arc, Mig, Tig and Gas Welding. Should have a valid Michigan Driver’s License in order to operate an industrial forklift. Must have a high school diploma. Must be willing to be cross-trained.

REPORTS TO: Plant Manager

WORK SCHEDULE: Main hours of work, 5 days a week / 8 hour shifts.

EQUIPMENT USED FOR JOB:

Welding machines, Oxy-acetyline torch, small hand grinder, C-clamps, micrometers and various tools. May use various mid-size to large equipment. Pens and pencils.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical demands will require extended periods of standing, walking, manual dexterity of hands/fingers to grasp small objects. Correctable 20/20 vision and hearing abilities are required. Frequent demands include walking, sitting, bending, reaching and driving. Occasional physical demands involve climbing and balancing. Must be able to operate a hoist. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 10-25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS: 1. Uses Oxy-acetyline torch to cut and braze steel. 2. Estimates welding time and material required for each job. 3. May occasionally assist in purchasing of welding material and/or equipment. 4. Sets up jobs to weld using C-clamps and special equipment. 5. Reads and interprets welding prints, sketches and geometric symbols. 6. Must be able to meet deadlines and schedule time. 7. May do certain types of heat treating and flame hardening. 8. May supervise and/or perform training. 9. Knowledge of what type of material needs pre-heating, post heating and what type of welding rod is required.

You have the freedom, responsibility and authority to: a) initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating to product, process and quality system; b) identify and record any problems relating to the product, process and quality system; c) initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels; d) verify the implementation of solutions; e) control further processing, delivery or installation of nonconforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected; f) represent the needs of the customer in internal functions in addressing QS-9000 requirements (e.g. selection of special characteristics, setting quality objectives, training, corrective & preventive actions product design and development)
