Job Title: Lynn Youth Program Coordinator
Location: Lynn, MA with some travel to surrounding communities
Hours & Compensation: Full-Time (40 hours), $55,000-$60,000 commensurate to experience
FSLA: Exempt
Reports to: Youth Program Manager

Background: The New American Association of Massachusetts (NAAM) is a non-profit organization that provides social support services to refugees and immigrants in northeastern Massachusetts. Core services include ESOL classes, employment, case management, citizenship, youth programming and more. NAAM Youth Program seeks to empower refugee children and youth ages 0-24 by equipping them with the skills and tools they need to thrive in their new homes. We are currently hiring a Youth Program Coordinator to oversee our programming for school-aged youth in Lynn and surrounding areas.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

• Direct Programming:

o Develop and implement out-of-school time programming for youth in grades K-12, which includes afterschool and summer programs, school-based programs, and programs in local shelters.
o Programming should balance academic and enrichment opportunities, with a focus on English language development throughout.
o Supervise program support staff, volunteers, and AmeriCorps Fellows.
o Hire and train new staff as needed.
o Work in tandem with NAAM’s Early Childhood Coordinator and Teen/Young Adult Coordinator to ensure continuity and smooth transitions as children grow.
o Connect with NAAM’s youth program staff in Lowell and Newburyport to collaborate and share ideas.

• Family Support Services:

o Register newcomer students for school as needed and introduce families to the US education system
o Serve as a school liaison to bridge communication gaps between refugee families and public schools.
o Attend school events and meetings as appropriate, such as open houses, parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings, etc.
o Support school staff to more effectively work with refugee students and families
o Connect families with additional youth resources as needed
o Collaborate with NAAM’s other teams, such as employment and case management to better inform our wraparound services for families.

• Administrative Work:

o Keep detailed and up-to-date records and case notes for all program participants
o Evaluate program effectiveness
o In collaboration with the Program Manager, track the program budget and submit invoices, bills, and timesheets for program staff and expenses
o Write semi-annual reports for funders and stakeholders
o Participate in NAAM all-staff meetings and events

Qualifications:

• BA in education, social work, or related field, or comparable professional experience
• At least two years of experience in program coordination, preferably in an education or youth work setting
• Willingness to take a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach to youth development
• Respect for other cultures
• Strong communication skills in oral and written English. Ability to speak another language is preferred but not required.
• Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks
• Experience working with children and families across language and cultural differences
• Organized with high-attention to detail
• Reliable and able to take initiative
• Flexibility and able to adjust programming and services in response to new populations or funding changes
• Availability to work afternoon/evening hours during the school year and morning/afternoon hours in the summer. Please note, while there is some potential for remote work, the majority of this position requires in-person work.
