The Technology Practice Area (TPA) at RTI International has an opening for an Information Technology (IT) Project Management Specialist to manage the day-to-day operations of research projects under the direction of project leadership. This position requires project management experience, excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, outstanding verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal and relationship-building aptitude, ability to prioritize tasks and focus on details, and willingness to work effectively in a team environment with a diverse group of both technical and non-technical staff.


Responsibilities
  • Manage all operational aspects of the project.
  • Lead the project's technical team in fulfilling contractual obligations.
  • Create and execute project work plans.
  • Create, review, and monitor project cost reports.
  • Review project deliverables prior to submission to the client.
  • Identify project status issues and risks and determine mitigation strategies.
  • Implement project calendars and timelines.
  • Ensure project documents are complete, named according to convention, and stored appropriately in file shares.
  • Manage contract vehicles, review and process invoices.
  • Execute consultant agreements and subcontracting arrangements.
  • Write and deliver project reports.
  • Travel and attend off-site project meetings as needed.
  • Interact with RTI scientists and clients.
  • Oversee project travel, working within government per diem.
  • Record, distribute and track actions and decisions for weekly project meetings.
  • Establish and implement project management processes and methodologies.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget.
  • Adhere to high quality standards and meet customer expectations.
  • Assemble project plans identify resource needs, perform quality reviews.
  • Escalate functional, quality, timeline issues appropriately.
  • Responsible for tracking key project milestones.
  • Create scope statements and management plans,
  • Create work breakdown structures (WBS), network diagrams, schedules, communication plans, quality management plans, risk response plans, and procurement management plans.
  • Solicit vendor bids, select vendors, review contracts, and manage contracts (as needed).
  • Measure and report project performance, control changes, verify and control scope.
  • Control schedule, cost, and quality.
  • Monitor and control risk.
  • Keep all project management documents current.
  • Verify project goals have been met.
  • Conduct procurement audits and obtain formal contract acceptance (as needed).
  • Create contract file and project archives.
  • Obtain formal project approvals and acceptance.
  • Perform lessons learned and associated retrospectives.

Qualifications

Required:
  • B.S./B.A. with 5 years of experience or M.S. and 3 years of experience in an IT environment.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
  • Demonstrated experience in MS Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred:
  • Experience working in a research environment.
  • Experience working in an IT environment.

$107,000 - $132,000
