JOB SUMMARY: Patrols on foot, ATV and/or bicycle the downtown business district, alleys, and adjacent City parking structures to maintain and secure a safe environment. Responds to questions, provides information, and assists the public and local merchants. Assists police and other safety personnel with emergency and non-emergency situations and enforces local, state, and federal laws.

MAJOR DUTIES: 1. Class 1 law enforcement certification. 2. Provide law enforcement protection and traffic enforcement for Zone 7. Monitors police radio calls and responds to situations as directed. Patrols on foot and/or bicycle the downtown business district, adjacent City parking structures, alleys, and streets. Alternate vehicle such as a golf cart may be utilized. Checks restaurants, bars, stairwells, elevators, restrooms and lobbies for unauthorized persons or activities. Assists police officers with arrest, crowd control, and other emergency and non-emergency situations. Issues parking citations and performs traffic control duties and enforces local, state, and federal laws. 3. Provides information, direction, and assistance to the public and local merchants. Required effective communication both verbally and written regarding interaction with visitors, citizens, business owners, and law enforcement, fire, and ems agencies. 4. Reports hazardous, unsafe, or irregular conditions within the patrol area. Knowledge of emergency procedure and adherence to local, state, and federal guidelines including NIMS (National Incident Management System) regarding emergency procedure to fires, bomb threats, or any other emergency. 5. Attend training as required by management (for example alcohol enforcement team training). 6. Work with the crime analyst regarding the daily analytical report. The report will be created to identify when, how, and where the crimes are being committed, and who the likely offenders are. This information will allow for a much more efficient and effective deployment of resources. 7. Detailed weekly reports submitted to the Patrol Captain and Chief regarding enforcement activity, meetings attended, and special event duty. 8. Partnership with the patrol division in the Business Keep Check Program and coordination with Captain Richard Willett in the planning of all special events. 9. Performs other related duties, as assigned. 10. Downtown Officers are responsible for patrolling the Recreation Center, D. B. Walker Park, Meals on Wheels, Anderson County Property (Old McCants), District 5 property including fields and park, and Greely Park. 11. The perimeters of Zone 7 will be East Greenville Street to North Murray Avenue to include West Orr Street to North Towers Street (VIADUCT) to West Whitner Street to Tolly Street to West Market Street to South Towers Street to West River Street to South Fant Street to East Greenville Street. Officers seeking this position, a community-oriented policing approach is essential.
